Doug Paker Merger Q&A with Arizona Republic

Parker continues to make his case to Delta

See Story

Q: Have you made any further attempts to make your case, one on one, with Delta management?

A: Right now, we're trying to be respectful of their views and of the (bankruptcy) process.

There's no ambiguity about how they feel. I don't think any amount of conversation at this point is going to move them off their positions. So it doesn't seem either appropriate or productive to do that right now. But I'm highly hopeful that as we move forward that we'll be able to do that.

Your babblefish is not set up correctly "Mr. I just Signed Up", the text reads as:

Translation: We'll see if the creditors like our deal better, if not we'll pay more, and once the Creditors side with us, we expect Delta Management to kiss our butts looking to keep their jobs

Why does it matter that I just signed up? Are you sayin that my opinion doesnt count because I am a newbie? Are you tryin to say that I am ignorant because I have only posted a few messages?

You have to start at some point right? That is just stupid! It would be like me sayin: Rico, you must be childish and uneducated because your name and picture are taken from a children's cartoon movie.

No, someone that recently signed up in a forum, that tosses out flamebait (like your post was) often indicates that you are a "sock"... Which is a term for someone that has been posting on here for sometime, but decided to cleverly create a new log-in to better "troll" (and cause trouble).

But I am pretty sure from your response that you are just plain 'ol wrong...

Parker would not talk to a friendly reporter and give any indication that his postion was weak, nor his outlook grim. If anything he did it to further his case in the Media, it is what we call "Spin".

I can supply a Wiki link to what that word means if you are still confused. <_<

Nevermind, might as well succumb to the obvious. Here ya go, enjoy your reading... What is Spin

Actual translation: We don't need to do anything. We'll wait for the creditors to give us feedback on Bethune's analysis. If they're still thinking standaline is good, we have an upper limit we're willing to bid that we haven't reached yet. We'll go a little higher if necessary. We expect Bethune to come back to the committee and explain that the company provided valuation is far higher than should be expected. As their valuation comes down, ours becomes more and more attractive since it currently includes a significant cash payout immediately. For Delta to provide that same payout, their survivability falls into greater jeopardy...

Seems to me that someone who has recently signed up has just as much right to post and express their opinions as you do. You do not know if this person was trolling. Presumptuous on your part.
Using your logic you assumed this to be true and that often indicates that you are an "ass"... Which is a term for someone who is donkeylike in nature.
Do you need a Wiki link for that?

Don't you have a Mesa flight to delay and lie about the reasons why?

Rico works for Mesa?

I still think that Dougies' ultimate goal is fragmentation of DL not swallowing of DL. I keep thinking about Comair and replacing Mess up, er, Mesa once and for all. Christmas twice in one year

I could INSTANTLY be in favor of this Merger if it sent Johnny O and his putrid airline out of my life. Another 18 months of chaos and silliness would be a small price to be rid of them!!!!
I'd love to see the specifics, but it is my understanding that U's claimed lack of job losses in a combinded operation, is pretty much only for each Mainline operation.

The obvious domestic overlap would be reduced, by reducing the Express carriers instead... I have not seen Mr. Parker promise any sort of job security to Comair or Mesa employees.

Which kinda makes sense if you control the market share, and have the ability to offload DAL's excess regional feed thru the Bankruptcy process. IMO the only 50 seat jets left would be those operated by PSA and Air Wisconsin.

No, that sort of thing is for the MODS to determine if that person is a sock or troll.

So far as I am concerned, it really doesn't matter if this person is actually new, other than they are probably new to this forum, and as such unaware of what kind of response a post like that will generate...

If some NOOB jumps on and posts flamebait, then they deserve to be corrected just as much as anyone else. <_<

As for the rest of the sticks and stones that you want to toss my way, it still does not change the subject. Parker is just waiting for the Creditors to decide, not Delta.

And no, I have not, nor ever will work for Mesa. 🙄

Thank you Rico for bringin us back and provin the point I was makin: US Airways has no leverage right now. it can only sit & wait to hear what the creditrs think.

I knew if you 'thunk enuf' about it, it would come to you. congrats.

I said straight on in other posts that no one has anything to say about this, other than the creditor/investors.

Employee marches, websites, posts on this forum are all a waste of time other than interesting conversation or some form of feel-good release.

There is no such thing as "leverage" in a BK proceeding, there is just a choice (by those that get to choose) of which plan produces more profit for them (NOT Delta)...

The "Ball" is in the creditor's court, and it will be up to them to decide if the amount is enough, or if U has to pony up even more to win the rights to your company.

That is why your company is such an attractive takeover target, as opposed to anyone else out there. You don't need "leverage", you just need cash.

Nuff said.

Well Rico,

In case you have forgotten, the Delta pilots are represented on the official unsecured creditors committee and as such, will have a vote. We are a creditor that you refer to and yes the ball is in our court. Go ahead and chalk up one "no" vote.

As a pilot, I am all too aware that pilots can be bought off as easily as any corporation. If anything, they are the easiest to buyoff. Usually just a large fleet order giving a realtive gain in senority (for the majority) will suffice.

Sorry to be so jaded, but history is a bitter teacher.

Plus labor knows damn well that consolidation is the only means to regain the leverage lost since deregulation. And that only profitable carriers will provide the payscales and stability that pilots want.

Will the DAL pilots demand a big payoff...? Heck yeah. But they are the only labor group at Delta that can do so, as opposed to (say) NWA's multiple unions...

As a pilot, I am all too aware that pilots can be bought off as easily as any corporation. While profit might not seem to be a direct motivator, the personal profit gained by fleet growth and career stability has swayed more than one pilot group in the past.

I don't see any promises of fleet growth or career stability in Parker's plan. In fact, DALPA believes that there will be numerous pilot layoffs and career instability. Then there is the merging with an extremely senior US pilot group that brings very little to the table in terms of widebodies and international opportunity.
The only ones who will gain here are the US pilots.
