Egypt Looking for Change?

I'm not sure if I want to take a look at your life...I might be a lot like you. 😱

Back on topic. I think Egypt will be fine. I will say it again, fledgling Democracy is messy.

And I agree! Look at the former Communist Block countries in Europe. We need to stay out and allow this fledgling democracy find it's own path. That's what non intervention is.

Supreme Court justice encourages Egypt to look to South African model instead.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg must have missed the memo about Egypt’s radical Islamist transformation over the past 12 months. Since Hosni Mubarak’s government crumbled under heavy pressure from the United States, Islamic extremists have been assaulting Coptic Christians, raping their wives and daughters, and burning their homes and churches to the ground. They’ve ambushed Israel’s embassy, prompting a late-night emergency evacuation in September. They won’t recognize the State of Israel and they’ve vowed to dissolve the Egypt-Israel peace treaty.

Last month, Islamist hard-liners, led by the Muslim Brotherhood, won 72 percent of the seats in Egypt’s parliament. So much for the supposedly unpopular, bumbling Brotherhood, to paraphrase what the New York Times wrote a year ago. “There is little reason for the United States to fear a takeover by the Muslim Brotherhood,” the Times assured its readers last February. Today, of course, Islamic fundamentalists are now in charge. Just this week, Egyptian authorities decided to prosecute 19 Americans accused of fomenting unrest in Egypt.
DOH! 😱

I think,as with other issues, you have no clue.

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood wants government sacked

CAIRO (AP) – Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood called Thursday on the ruling generals to sack the military-appointed government, saying it has failed to manage the deteriorating security and economic situation in the country.

Where's this going to go?

Bader Ginsburg already recommended they do not seek a Constitution like the US.....WTF's with that?

She is commissioned with protecting, defending and interpreting the Constitution of the United States.

And you progressive clowns on the left I suppose support her view?

And Gingrich is wrong wanting jurists called to account?

Muslim Brotherhood Warns U.S. Aid Cut May Affect Egypt’s Peace Treaty With Israel

How's that democracy now Barack?

(CNSNews.com) – A top Muslim Brotherhood official has warned that any cuts in U.S. aid to Egypt could affect Cairo’s peace treaty with Israel – the latest sign that Egypt’s emerging political forces intend to call Washington’s bluff over the diplomatic dispute triggered by a crackdown on non-governmental organizations.

Egypts peace treaty with Israel is toast anyway.

Well it's one of those "What if's". Would the trade be there without the alliance? Or would the alliance be there without the trade? Treaty obligations are tricky now that we have so many. There are "alliances" and there are ALLIANCES to consider.

But as a general Policy Jefferson's admonition was correct.

Alliances are what made countries that are stable trading partners with the US possible. NATO is a very good example.

And Gingrich is wrong wanting jurists called to account?

You do know that it can work both ways right? A Democratic president could decide that he does not like a Supreme Court decision and not abide by it. In the world according to Newt.

(Reuters) - A deft businessman and politician tempered by years in Hosni Mubarak's prisons, Khairat al-Shater is aiming to bring Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood to the pinnacle of power for the first time in its 84-year history. But his candidacy for the presidency has exposed rifts in the Islamist group's ranks, worried liberals and could turn up the heat in a row with Egypt's ruling army.

I think this is the only way a country can change it's future. They have to want it and they have to change it from with in. Change cannot be forced on a population and expect it to work. I guess it remains to be seen if the Egyptians can force Mubarak out or if he will hang on for a while longer. I do believe that Dictators/plutocracy or how ever you want to define Egypt's form of government are going to go away. With all the communication forms available these days, the younger generations are not going to just sit idly by any more. I think if Egypt falls, that will have a huge ripple effect.

Egypt unrest

If they can figure out out to organize, they might just pull it off.

Muslim Brotherhood has 'started crucifying opponents of new President', claims website

Looks like Democracy is alive and doing fine in Egypt much like you predicted.

[quoteA Sky News Arabic correspondent in Cairo confirmed that protestors belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood crucified those opposing Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi naked on trees in front of the presidential palace while abusing others. Likewise, Muslim Brotherhood supporters locked the doors of the media production facilities of 6-October [a major media region in Cairo], where they proceeded to attack several popular journalists.

The part from my link that you overlooked:

Update:
Middle East expert Patrick Poole emailed me to correct an error in the story. The reason I couldn't find the crucifixion story on the Sky News English language website is because Ray Ibrahim translated the report from the Sky News Arabic site. Patrick also supplied a link to the Arab language article Ray quoted from.
My mistake was in thinking that Sky News was something like the BBC with bureaus all over the world but a central location for news dissemination. Glad that Patrick cleared that up for me.

Analysis: Brotherhood taking total control of Egypt

While the world persists in looking for signs of pragmatism in the Egyptian president, Mohamed Morsy is quietly taking over all the power bases in the country.
Having gotten rid of the army old guard, he replaced them with his own men – officers belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood or known sympathizers. Then he turned his attention to the media, replacing 50 editors working for the government’s extensive and influential press empire – including Al- Ahram, Al-Akhbar, Al-Gomhuria. He is now busy appointing new governors to the 27 regions of the country.

The Muslim Brotherhood is fast assuming total control. For many observers, the deployment of army units is Sinai is more about proclaiming Egyptian sovereignty in the face of Israel than actually fighting Islamic terrorism.

Drafting the new constitution is their next objective.
The assembly, however, is not waiting. According to various leaks it is putting the final touch to a constitution where all laws have to conform to the Shari’a and special committees will supervise the media and forbid any criticism of Islam and of the Prophet.
Some of the nongovernmental media are vocal in their criticism of Morsy, though it can be costly: Private television station Al- Pharaein – “the Pharaohs” – was shut down after it called to get rid of Morsy; its owner, Tawfik Okasha, well known for his hostility to the Brothers (and to Israel) and who called for a massive demonstration this Friday, was put under house arrest, as was the editor of the daily Al-Dostour that had criticized the president. The editors of two other dailies – Al-Fajer and Saut el-Umma – were questioned. Other papers such as Al-Akhbar stopped publishing opinion pieces from their regular collaborators known for their opposition to the Brothers; well-known publicists left their page blank in a gesture of solidarity for their colleagues.

CAIRO (AP) -- Egypt's Islamist leadership took a new move Tuesday to put its stamp on the country's government, appointing members of the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood as provincial governors and installing ultraconservatives and other Islamists in the state's top human rights body and a powerful media council.
The shake-up was the latest step by President Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood to reshape state institutions that were long the monopoly of ousted autocrat Hosni Mubarak, his ruling party and the military that backed him.
Supporters have praised the moves as part of a drive to cleanse the system of Mubarak loyalists after Morsi was inaugurated in late June as the country's first freely elected president. But the heavy infusion of Islamists into government institutions has raised fears of Brotherhood domination monopolizing power as much as Mubarak did and moving Egypt into a more religious rule.

It's called a caliphate.

It was the latest move to reshape the state-run newspapers that under Mubarak were mouthpieces for the regime's fierce anti-Brotherhood campaigns. Last month, the Shura Council replaced 50 chief editors of state papers, installing Islamists or Brotherhood sympathizers.

Allahu Ahkbar

"We are in an era that we can describe as `Ikhwanization' by which the Muslim Brotherhood is imposing control over state institutions," Hassan said, using the Arabic word for the Brotherhood, "Ikhwan."

(Reuters) - Egyptian protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy on Tuesday, tore down the American flag and burned it during a protest over what they said was a film being produced in the United States that insulted Prophet Mohammad.

The news agency says about 2,000 protesters have gathered outside the embassy and about 20 have scaled the walls.
The AP says the protesters were largely ultra-conservative Islamists.
