Here's my prediction..... CO/DL AA/NW UA/US

Are you smoking crack? god i hope so.... Do you honestly think DAL and CAL would hook up with both of their huge ops in NY ... Not a chance unless one of them wanted to get rid of a SIGNIFICANT amount of flying... which i doubt... that is an even worse scenario than DAL and US..much worse... and would never pass the front door...

However, consolidation is not dead, and in fact, likely will accelerate more quickly than we had been anticipating. In our revised consolidation outlook, we regard a Delta and Northwest Airlines deal as a much higher probability event, and a game changer for AMR. In particular, AMR may be forced to become a first mover on Northwest Airlines, an event we also rank as high probability.
I just hope Doug planned all this.

Either that, or his whole smoke and mirrors show is starting to come unglued.

Thanks for the link. I find it interesting that Alaska was mentioned as a possible merger partner for US. I have always felt this would be a great move placing US in all 4 corners of the US and *Alliance partner UAL in the middle.

I would prefer US to work on making itself a great airline. It is too soon out of the merger gate to focus on another, but I think pandora's box has been opened.

Just a sidenote. Are the Delta employees ready to give up their identity? I can't see ANY of the potential merger partners giving up their name sake.

The article is slight bipolar. First it says the US deal with Delta might not happen. Then it says it might be successful. Then it says NW will go to Delta. Then it says that AA will get NW before Delta will.

Huh?

Heard there may be a three some in the making...DL/NW/US. Anyone else hear this?

Everyone said US was too far gone to save. Now they say the DL acquisition is too soon. Don't underestimate this Tempe gang, you'll lose.

You picked up on that too?

No matter what AA throws down in an attempt for NWA. There remains a Cal/ NWA which is operationally already half way there, or Cal/NWA/Dal. AA finds itself (currently)not in it's strongest position to act.

All of this must play out before the 2ed quarter as everything will change from that point forward...NWA will be a lean (spoiling for a fight..as usual) money machine.

Here's my prediction..... CO/DL AA/NW UA/US

Just about every scenario has been worked through by
the airlines and the investment houses/banks. I believe
this one has the best chance of becoming the Big Three.

The synergies that compelled the merger attempt between
UA and US in 2000/2001 have not changed and it could be
argued have even more pontential today.

Except it leaves Ual without Cal's excellet S.A. and European routes.

Never much thought about US and UA. Was always focused on why US went with Deltra instead of NWA. Interesting thought.....
