Exxon Biggest Quarterly Profit in US History as Airlines, Vegas Suffer

I believe you are talking about Southwest and I believe that is wht they say. I think in a way they are taking care of shareholders, they do it by taking care of their employees and customers.

BTW I used to work for the airlines for 35 years. Should have left for my current job years ago.
IT is southwest, and they are an exception to the rule. Yes, they are taking care of their shareholders, but what if an analyst says that they could make MORE profit if, along with the fuel hedges, they cut staff and outsourced cleaning the aircraft? In that case, they aren't heeding the analysts words, and they would be (and have been) penalized for not showing a profit that met analysts expectations.

When will corporate greed ever end? If these greedy b@$t@rd$ keep it up, in ten years, the almighty fortunes they amass won't be worth a damn thing. We'll just be hoping and praying that King Saud and the rest of world will continue to invest the money that used to be ours, back into the country we used to own...

Notice no one is talking about what the tax revenue was for the US government off these profits? Also notice that no one is talking about the profits, while big numbers, are about 8% ROI?

Let's see.. a few years ago when the market was roaring and everyone was making 15-20% on their mutual funds, who was angry and thought they should be subjected to 'windfall profits' taxes? When your 401Ks were going up, anyone for additional taxes? Or when talking about subsidizing an industry, who wants to lose their home mortgage deduction.

When anyone begins an argument with "BIG", you might as well hand them a cracker because they are just going to parrot the party line. For example, you keep hearing about the 68 million acres leased to the oil companies and they are not drilling. Wonder why? The leases are not in perpetuity so if they don't drill, they lose the cost of the lease. Maybe they want offshore because it will cost less to bring the oil to market. Does anyone really think that if there were millions of barrels of oil in those 68mil that could be easily extracted that the oil companies would not be drilling?

And the real funny thing about the argument is that with people driving less, using less gas, the city and state and highway tax revenues are going down and the politicians are crying about how much money they are 'losing'. Right... seems they aren't happy with lower prices and aren't happy with higher prices.

Maybe we should do what the wizard from California, Maxine Waters, suggests and 'socialize' the oil industry (the poor woman, a multi-time elected D REP, has so little command of the language that she meant 'nationalize.)

No one is happy with the prices but then, O says the only thing we need to do is pump up our tires and get a tune up so we don't need to drill. And Nancy says she is only trying to 'save the planet'.

It just gets more bizarre each day....
