F/A agreement, list the concessions

I might suggest that the term "the union" was used deliberately since it has been pointed out that elsewhere "the union" is defined as the AFA. AFA has a stated DOH merger policy. In the case that the other represented group is represented by AFA, end of discussion, case closed. However, if for instance the merger is with AA, Federal law requires that a representation election be held to determine which union will represent the combined f/a corps when the two groups are represented by different unions (the same would apply if you were to merge with Southwest because their f/as not represented by AFA). The results of the election will determine the method of combination to be used.

Heres a thought....For those who continue to bark and whine about mis spelled words and definitions...(rightly or wrongly) has anyone of you sent an email, made a phone call, dropped by their office of any of the AFA reps or negiotiators?????????????? Why ask these questions on a board where no one on here knows the answer? Could it be you havent thought of that or you dont want to hear the truth? Its really amzing that no one has made an effort to ask those questions? Am I missing something here??

For those truely interested in knowing the truth...ask those who might know... Here are some of the tools you might use...

Surely one of the above...Especially Cathy ( Recommended a no vote) could enlighten those who want to know the answers. Now theres no more reason for rumors and gossip..Go straight to the source and share with all of us your findings....Good luck! Also adding road show information sessions! Now gather all of your information and questions...use one of the above tools and make a difference for yourself.

No rumors or gossip on my part. Just making as many people as possible aware of any and all POSSIBLE mistakes that could be a huge headache latter. It is in black and white. Please read for yourselves and decide. As far as calling union leaders, Your info above is greatly appreciated! Now, hopefully everyone that reads the agreement for themselves and sees any errors and omissions will follow through with that phone call or e-mail. Getting some of those leaders to actually listen in any meaningful way can be a difficult feet.

What you said does not make sense. If you are aware of issues with the contract or it's language...why would you NOT alert someone who can make a difference instead of coming onto a chat board to point them out???? If it makes no sense then usually it isnt true? Do us all a favor...if you have a gift for finding things in a contract that would damage YOU and your fellow co workers....Let the union know instead of stirring the pot on here.....

You only listed only one person and link that was on the JNC that could answer any question a member might have (because no one else you listed was on the actual JNC).

You left out the address for Carol Austin and Deb Volpe.

mecpresident66@aol.com

CAustin@afausairways.org

I am sure they would be more than happy to answer specific questions.

Also the Facebook link you listed to the MEC doesn't provide anything but press releases and updates - as noted on the MEC page.

"AFA US Airways MEC Our Facebook page is not a forum, and comments that are posted by members are not visible to other members and are deleted."

Why? So much for transparency and communication.

Attend the road shows and ASK the tough questions - Not one member should take ANYTHING at face value or be mislead by the highlights of the contract power point. That's how the last contract was passed (by the members that actually bothered to vote)

Question everything. Once the TA passes it will be too late for "I didn't know that was in the language." What is contained within the actual contract language is what is going to affect your career positively or negatively going forward. Nothing else. What matters is in the details.

I also have a link:

Cick here to read the truth

Frankly unless those who claim the sky is falling ...themselves are at the table negotiating ...wont believe anything but rather stir the pot because they have nothing better to do. I believe the contract will pass by a landslide and for some that just hurts the heart..

That would be unfortunate. I think the entire membership would be hurt, not just one individuals heart.

Well...that depends.... It really is not a bad contract. Anyone that expected much more really does not understand how buisness works. The cost of doing buisness can not be more than revenue. The company has to make money. When you put it in perspective it really does make sense. Could have certain sections been better? Sure.... Im not happy with 100% of the contract but all in all..not a bad deal. Some will disagree and thats ok... they can express their opinions by saying no... People will always always always vote with their pocketbook and quality of life. No where in the contract do I see where my quality of life will be drastically affected. Anyone who thinks this job is so horrible and pays nothing.. truly has not been out in the real world! It is my opinion thats all...

Here's a thought from someone who is/was a bit more than a casual observer. IMO the ONLY MEC President that didn't roll over and play dead during BK 2 was Teddy Xidas. So my question to the group is "What would Teddy say?"

PLEASE, I don't want this thread to turn into an I hate/love Teddy thread because that is NOT the point. She knew her stuff contract wise and I wonder given what I hearing what she would recommend.

Correct me I could be wrong .... Did she not bring the f/a's the contract they are under now?

The answer is yes IIRC. By your question I'll assume you worked for HP pre-merger. The climate of BK 2 was beyond ugly. Every group got a huge haircut. AFA, under Teddy fared only slightly better. Given the environment she got the contract that sucked the least and again IIRC she told PIT to vote NO and US was very very frightened it wouldn't pass and they'd likely have liquidated as a result.

PM me if you want a bit more detail. There is a lot that folks don't know about what went on.

US was close to going out of business anyway, so I don't think the FAs voting yes had anything to do with that not happening. Teddy wrote a detailed letter sating why she felt the company was blowing smoke, and a lot of it turned out to be true.

Good point! US did have one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel The odd thing is that now it's come almost full circle, here it is Contract time and frankly US really isn't doing all that well. Truthfully they can't afford much and any hiccup in the price of fuel or the economy and there is a very good chance 2004/5 will seem like yesterday.

You assume wrong . I know teddy she knows her stuff. I was there, you Hawk were not!!! I have not a clue why you are on this topic. Well will ask are questions at the road shows . It is for f/a's only and you must show your ID not for passengers. Over 6000 f/ a's .. and many many did not know her. The I know Teddy line has no merit here. For the record US was NOT very very frightened ...they guaranteed it would pass.

Are you trying to tell f/a's how to vote ... Passengers will never tell or sway us on how to vote.
