F/A busted at customs

I heard the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I was told (you know how rumors get distorted) that he had 25 Jack Daniels. How could someone be so stupid! If you're going to take a bunch of mini bottles, at least do it on a domestic flight where you don't have to go through customs. He should be fired just for sheer stupidity alone.

Hadenough,

How about here?

USCREW
Saw that one too. Is it two seperate cases or are they one in the same. I was wondering if it is someone I know. Is that the Floyd refered to by US1YFARE?

Most definitely. Floyd likes Jack a lot.

The other F/A who got caught with the red wines, I know. He's flying international out of PHL (very senior, speaks five languages).

I can tell that you are very bright but maybe you are missing the logic here. Customs does care about the written limits, however, that has nothing to do with why this F/A was terminated. He was fired because he STOLE the minis. These are two separate issues. Customs could not care less how or where he got the minis so long as it is declared and totals less than a liter-- USAir does. Sorry this was confusing for you.

Not confusing for me.

Now, how is the company going to prove the "minis" in the FAs possession came from a US aircraft? It seems crew-members went through this once before, and, the company ended up with egg on their faces. I would not be surprised to see a repeat performance of theater of the absurd, brought you us by US.

Whether you are aware of it or not, the laws of the arrival state ALSO apply at Customs. Most states prohibit the public sale or import of miniatures. (It's another reason we are not supposed to give unopened alcohol to passengers to take from the plane.) Also, in some states the maximum amount allowed is less than the Federal allowance. Discovered that once on a cruise. Cruise ended in Puerto Vallarta. We then flew back to IAH where we cleared Customs. Seems Texas allows less than Feds--that was back in the day when you could bring up to five 5ths of liquor into Miami on a cruise. Texas allowed 1. There was much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth among the passengers who had liquor confiscated at IAH.

Indeed, there are some states that operate in the eighteenth century, though not certain Tx has gotten there yet.

However, within the customs area, Federal law applies, only. Should states wish to impose their own pathetic laws, they are more than free to outside the Federally designated area or only with the concurrence of the Feds.

I am no expert but feel pretty confident in that I have been in charge while undergoing customs inspections in most gateway states, even Texas and had no unusual experiences.

BTW, I have purchased miniatures in CA, AZ, Texas as well as PA (state store) and NJ. Not one question.

Yes, you can buy mini's in a liquor store. Problem is, our Jack Daniels says "TRANSPORTATION" on the one side. Most of our mini's do. Maybe someone "set" Floyd up.

My, my, my. You are such an expert in Customs law, why are you working for an airline? May I give your name to the people who had their liquor confiscated in the Customs hall at IAH because it exceeded the state limit?

And, you are full of it. I've lived in Texas since 1969. Miniatures are illegal for public sale in Texas. Bars are not even allowed to use them.

And, I'm curious. You seem to be more upset with the fact that the employee didn't get away with it than the fact that they were stealing from their employer. And, don't give me the "we don't know they took it off the airplane" baloney. You know the f/a stole the minis from the liquor cart, and I know the f/a stole the minis. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night (as they say).

Maybe Floyd should switch to rum. I dont see any markings on the mini I have left over from my last flight (and yes they took my upgrade so it IS mine!.) 😛h34r:

You can buy mini's in PA.

I've never seen TRANSPORTATION on the minis that I've taken, I mean, been served, on US flights.

Just took a look at my collection of Jack Daniels...it's on every one of them except for one served on a HP flight.

You apparently, were born yesterday.
You are more than welcome giving anyones name away. You stated one liter in Miami, then go on to talk about one of the most backward states in the union, texas.

In case you didn't notice, the thread started out about confiscation, not theft.

Living there since 1969. Well, that would certainly explain the problem. Back then, clubs sold booze by the mini, only, just like South Carolina did until recently.

Theft was not mentioned until later in the thread, not that someone with all hat and no cattle noticed. In the real world (even in texas), you still have to prove theft, though gossip and supposition seems rampant, still.

In case you didn't notice, the initial post contained this:

got fired supposedly

I didn't know that customs had the power to fire US employees.......so wouldn't the implication be that US "supposedly fired" the employee? And for what - having something confiscated by customs or more likely alleged theft of liquor from the airplane?

Jim
