F/A busted at customs

We have idiots like that too. :down: One of our f/as of the month (no lie) stole a comforter from her hotel room in Frankfurt. She didn't get away with it though. Let's stay tuned to see if the guy with the minis is awarded f/a of the month.

True, but your math is a bit off; most minis these days are 50 ml (about 1.7 ounces, not one ounce), so 26 of them would be six over the one litre limit. And if you don't declare prior to search and discovery, you're likely gonna be fined, not just subject to the duty. And if you're airline crew with a bag full of minis, your employer is probably gonna be notified.

I can tell that you are very bright but maybe you are missing the logic here. Customs does care about the written limits, however, that has nothing to do with why this F/A was terminated. He was fired because he STOLE the minis. These are two separate issues. Customs could not care less how or where he got the minis so long as it is declared and totals less than a liter-- USAir does. Sorry this was confusing for you.

First, the issue is between you and customs, not the company. and why would the company be notified if the crew-member made a mistake about the total?

and, so what if you chose to carry your "blue blanket" in the form of minis? I see it happen with crew-members quite a bit at customs. You go to the window and pay the duty/fine, if applicable. I even saw a crew-member with a box of Cubans, admit what he had and all they did was cut them up.

This sounds like a set up.

BTW, most "minis" come in various sizes, the largest is 1.7 ounces. Just because the airline serves 1.7 ounce minis doesn't mean the crew-member got those minis from the airplane.

Whether you are aware of it or not, the laws of the arrival state ALSO apply at Customs. Most states prohibit the public sale or import of miniatures. (It's another reason we are not supposed to give unopened alcohol to passengers to take from the plane.) Also, in some states the maximum amount allowed is less than the Federal allowance. Discovered that once on a cruise. Cruise ended in Puerto Vallarta. We then flew back to IAH where we cleared Customs. Seems Texas allows less than Feds--that was back in the day when you could bring up to five 5ths of liquor into Miami on a cruise. Texas allowed 1. There was much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth among the passengers who had liquor confiscated at IAH.
