While PBS was voted in via a bankrupticy contract, it has never been enacted. To assume its default it into a new contract isn't a foregone conclusion. By definition, this IS a new TA. It can have in it what f/as want in it, negotiation dependent. For some unknown reason CA has been hot to get PBS on the US property for years. I have to believe that it has more to it than just the fact that PBS is so pro-senior f/a than our current system, but frankly, I have never understood her zeal in getting it. Having said that, it IS part of the current mess that is apparently being negotiated.
Try having 25 years and getting the left over garbage that the senior mamas don't want. And that might be the not so bad garbage. The blocks the juniors will end up with will curl their hair. Forget weekends off. Forget holidays. Forget having a second chance at a better schedule, here's what's left for you, happy flying!
Unless CA can make the company cough up a serious raise, better vacation and preserve scope, as far as I am concerned it's a waste of paper. Don't forget, PBS is a concession, and if it's enacted, we should be compensated for its loss.
As for the common "go get another job" comment, it's facile and basically irrelevant. US is unionized, and barring misconduct of the employee, it can't just sweep employees out the door for not drinking the koolaid. Demanding fair compensation and work rules is just business and providing them is the cost of doing business. Given the seniority system we work under, we're stuck with US and US is stuck with us, so we negotiate until we either get an agreement the f/as and company can live with, or things eventually get difficult for both sides.
Avoiding that "difficult" has different prices for different people. For AWA, I can see why your "difficult" number is a lot lower than EAST's, but the fact is, we have known better, and now that US is out of danger and making money, we're not buying their poverty cries. They're greedy and don't want to compensate fairly. Well, that's understandable, but unsustainable.
At the end of the day, hopefully, we are better than our weakest link.
