This was from an article in the USA Today on 18 Oct....

"Another example: Flight attendants now get commissions on in-flight sales of duty-free items and boxed meals. Tommie Hutto-Blake, president of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, says selling many of her members on the new approach has been hard. But management's sincerity and actions in working cooperatively with labor, and its commitment to maintaining workers' defined-benefit pension plans as other carriers dump theirs, is winning many over."

Forget the rah rah stuff from THB. What is the commission for duty free? What is the commission on a boxed meal?

Thanks.

As a ramp crew chief, if I have my neighbor check an extra bag can I then receive a commission? Can't wait til my 1st bonus ck. If it matches a pilot I can buy a new car.

Don't know about duty free because it only applies on International flights. And, I don't work in domestic coach on long enough flights usually--flight has to be 3 hours or longer (2.5 hours on certain routes) for there to be Buy On Board snack boxes. IIRC, the commission is 10% of sales. Now on a S80 from STL to LAX they will cater about 30 boxes. So, if you sell every single one--which never happens--the commission would be $9.00 split between the #2 and #4 that worked coach on that flight.

The last time I was eligible for commissions, I worked like 3 BOB flights in a month. The following month when the commission was paid, it was something like $3.50. At last, Mother can have that operation!

I received a letter in the mail a few weeks ago and thought it was junk and was just about to toss it when I noticed there was a check attached. I realized that it was for Duty Free sales over the last few months on my Intl trips. The flt numbers and dates were listed along with the city pairs b/c I sure couldn't remember when and where. My compensation check for Duty Free I helped to sell on three flights was roughly $30.00. More senior f/a's that work only long haul flts where Duty Free is offered made a few hundred dollars. I don't do Hawaii enough to have seen any monies from BOB so I can't comment on that.
