we have been given 72 hrs to comply with a ESO on the tailcone slides. possible damage to components during packing in back shops due to a tooling issue? anyone know about this???

Apparently a tail cone slide was found in Tulsa to have a broken fitting on a hose between the bottle and the slide. This would cause the slide to fail to inflate. An OSM at the AFW slide shop who packed this particular slide then ASAPed to the FAA when notified of this problem. The OSM claims that AA failed to make a special tool available to prevent this damage from happening on the Air Cruzer model slides.

AA has 72 hours(now actually 48) to inspect the entire MD-80 fleet. We found 3 or 4 damaged last night at DFW. I don't know how many were found at the other stations.

I did hear a snippet about some slide problems today at work. This involving the md-80s. Then whats the deal with the 757/767 not having enough slide capacity with regards to the new seats? Please tell me we are smarter than that? BTW CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME A HAND WITH THIS TWA BOAT ANCHOR DRAGGING ME DOWN................FLAME ON

Today the slide shop was informed that they have to put out 295 slides in the next 30 days. The company has looked through everybodies background to see if they have experience in the slide shop and are labor loaning these individuals to the slide shop. I was told that these were done in Tulsa at one time, but I have'nt been able to find out for sure when they were moved down here. I was told it was after the 2003 concessions. From what the people in the shop are saying is that AA has been violating this AD for about 8yrs and that Michael Jackson the manager and the people above him are scared to death about the public finding out after the wiring problems last year. This is common for AA being more concerned about their public image than the publics safety. OK this is what I found out and I can't wait to find out how long it will take for the company suckups to post their replies.

Ok...I stand corrected, there were a bunch of guys in on ot and QA people running around the last couple of nights inspecting the slides...I only know of a couple that were bad and don't know if the inspection is finished.

OK - so let the press and public find out how things are run at AA. Pay bonuses, preserve capital at all costs, and, oh yeah - passenger safety.

Arpey and minions are only stooges/mouthpieces for the BOD - the board may not take kindly to the egg the corporation would be wearing, not to mention the FAA attention, if there were an investigation into ignoring passenger safety.

It is not an AD, and the probable reason for the lack of info is that this was a sole source asap report. Hopefully if you ever file one people will only post facts about it instead of speculation and rumor.

The board is a major part of the problem and they need to be held accountable also, afterall they are the ones that agree to the bonus packages. Not to mention the spokespersons from headquarters that give lip service to the public by giving them half and partial truths. I think the latest person that does the companies lieing for them is named Lisa somthing.

I said that this is what an individual relayed to me. I never said everything this individual said was gospel and is'nt that part of the reason that we post here is to sort through everything and find out what is fact and what is not. If this is'nt an AD what made the OSM self disclose? Why did AA not have the proper tools to do the job? How many times have OSM's ask for the tooling and been blown off or worse yet threatened with discipline if they pushed this issue? Did the OSM's ask at all for the tooling? Let's also remember that these are OSM's and very few if any are licensed mechanics and may not understand what the manuals are saying. Also remember that a lot of these individuals were hired from the credit union, cafeteria, local secretaries, former security guards for the company and we all know the quality of the companies security guards. The company wanted OSM's to save money and deplete the mechanic ranks, not mention the old divide and concur. The fact is that company made their bed and now they are laying in it. NOW Mr Newbie since you are the self proclaimed authority on this subject why don't you answer some of these questions along with some of the one's that I did'nt ask. Oh by the way are you an OSM,twu rep or supporter, work in management or a company stooge?

Ok,

My point was that this information is expected to be kept in confidence, so putting incorrect information on a public message board really serves nobody. Now, incase you have not read the the gpm or the far, it is the person who signs the work off that is responsible for ensuring that they use proper parts and tooling. I am positive that somebody was asked to get the right tooling, however if that did not happen then maybe not signing for the work should be the answer?

I am sure that there are more than a handful of osm's with an a&p, this issue really has nothing to do with amt vs. osm.

After reading about asap it is quite clear that you can file an asap report for many reasons other than not complying with an AD. So your question about why someone would file an asap because it is not an AD just shows your lack of understanding of what asap is.

I am not proclaiming any kind of authority, I just seem to know more facts than you do. But hey, don't let the truth get in the way here ok!

It really does not matter if I am a Crew Chief, AMT or OSM. I am interested in the truth, so please don't try an berate me because I am speaking in facts and truths.

First of all the misunderstanding is on your part not mine.I asked the question if it was not an AD why did he self disclose, not that an AD was the only reason that you could disclose. As far as not signing the work off now you are telling the public that we do illegal work and allow some other person to sign the work off and put the publics safety in jeopardy instead of self disclosing at that time and keeping the public safe. The truth is also what I said this board was for. So that we could figure out was truth and rumor.

Compliance is compliance, doesn't matter what the source is.
If it is not right don't sign for it
