FAA WATCHING MD80 FLEET?

Talk about putting the "spin" on things. 11 slides were found with broken hoses. They would not have inflated if they had to be used. This was the subject of eco K3389AC. Those faulty slides were replaced, but now there is a new slide eco out (K3394) that concerns what 767 mechanic is talking about. Apparently there is some AD on these slides that was not complied with and now all the tail cone slides have to be checked for compliance with this AD.

First of all, great job to the mechanic who discovered this problem. I never thought the slides would make a damn bit of difference in a water landing. Then along came US1549.

It's definitely the right thing to do to get this handled before an incident or, more likely, FAA snooping gets out of hand.

There is a difference between the slides on the MD80 and the slide/rafts on the flight 1549 Airbus. The A320 was EOW equipped, so it had slide/rafts at the 4 doors which become rafts after being detached from the aircraft. Being double width with 2 inflated tubes around the perimeter, people can sit inside the slide/raft and it has all the ditching equipment of a raft.

A normal slide would be a flotation device to hold on to, but nothing more.

Not only that, if you tried to use a tailcone slide in a ditching you'd better have your Aquaman costume on.

The Aircruiser's 'Tech Rep" came to AFW and demonstrated the "PROPER" means to inspect and fold up a slide. When he looked at the shop's tooling, there was a tool missing, a $12.00 tool. According to the shop's stores person, he and his compadres were NOT allowed to process any requests for tooling, this was from Mr Michael Jackson, the Support Shop Director.
I have worked for the former TWU 514 Vice-President. He is all for doing the task QUICKER, FASTER AT LESS COST! That is how this turncoat has risen up through the salaried ranks so fast. He knows the current contract BETTER than the Shop Stewards. He EXPLOITS this expertise so fast and deftly that his superiors use him to wield their swords. 'Nuff said!

Princess thanks for comfirming that the info that I was given was accurate. Do you have any info on the AD? I guess skippy does not know as much as he or she thinks they know. I guess this confirms that this individual is in management, company stooge or bubba believer. Oh are you still in stores Judy?????????

Bill, I have no idea what the AD is for, except that all the slides that comply with it have a silver dot painted on the "girth" bar area. If it don't have a silver dot, it gets replaced. They have been checking about ten MD-80's a night at DFW.

As far as stores goes, it gets boring and I'm thinking about commiting some felonies so I can become a member of the TWU international. I haven't decided whether to write "Hot" checks or embezzle union local funds. How's Bay 3 these days?

Heard a rumor that TWU 514 traitor Michael Jackson has been fired over this slide issue. Can anyone at "THE ROCK" confirm this?

Yep, apparently Mikey got the axe, at least for now. We all now how management will rehire these "talanted" people as "consultants" at a later date.

The story going around is a supervisor wanted a grievance paid in a meeting with Mikey and two other supervisors. Mikey lost his cool and forcefully ripped off the supervisors badge from his shirt tearing it, and then tried to fire him . The supervisor filed a complaint with HR at Centerpork, and Mikey was shown the door. Still waiting to see if it will stick, I doubt it will. Rule 32 doesn't apply most of the time when a management infraction is involved.

Maybe the slide issue was stressing Mikey out?

<_< -----Article 32 is now a joke anyway! Ever since our favorite AFW Union Official, wrote his infamous letter to the TUL, and MCI, Local Presidents! If ever anyone should have been fired under that artical, he should have! ------ That letter was on Arpys desk, and Arpy choose to ignore it!------- The way I see it, that tells me Article 32 only applies to the peons on the floor! And not to Management, or Union officials!

I think some idiot did just this on US 1549 despite an FA's stern instructions not to.

Cabin crew are trained for the emergency, so unless you're actually on fire you really don't have any excuse for not following their directions.
