Fire onboard Express flight PHL-CAE

I just heard a blurb about this, on TV...now I don't have to wait till 11:00 news for the story....thank you

according to the NBC10 PHl news station, they said it was an engine generator.

It was the APU from what I heard from the Air Whisky mechanics (and saw for that matter.) A Chautauqua E145 was taking position and noticed fire and radioed the tower. I was walking between B&C terminals at the time on break and noticed a lot more fire trucks being dispatched than usual for something such as a medical emergency or if a piece of ground equipment was on fire. I decided to grab a beltloader and head over to investigate and sure enough they were in the midst of evacuating the aircraft. It backed up traffic for hours. A lot of incoming flights ended up diverting to BWI and even RIC. They finally towed it over in front of the hangar at F-terminal about an hour and a half later and unloaded the bags.

i was sittng on the ground for about 5 hrs. good thing everyone was ok.

It sure is important that everyone was well taken care of, but did it really need to take 5 hours?

I was also ‘stuck in traffic’ if you will; the initial incident was over within about 90 minutes but once the airport reopened, the back log of flights trying to get out was enormous. We were out on the taxi way and when ground finally got around to giving a line up, we were #72. There were at least 20 other planes behind us so it probably isn’t too much of a stretch to say there were 100 aircraft waiting to go.

Once that place shuts down a runway, it turns into a nightmare and takes quite a while to get back on track. We arrived at our destination, after a few short cuts and a favorable arrival runway, 3 hours late.
