First Paycheck for 2013 less than 2012

The social security increase is just a return to the original rate. Obama gave you a tax holiday for the last year of 2% off your social security. All that happened is that it is back to what it was meant to be and you just didn't thank anyone for the increase while you had it.

Socialism actually involves distribution of wealth equally. You will make what a CEO makes as does the village derelict. There is no down or up, just equal.

Really? Or are you repeating lies your teacher told you during the Cold War? Can you cite any examples of that from Socialists countries? I have relations in China, a Communist country, and people get paid differently at different levels.

Not promoting it just dont like to see such propoaganda go unchallenged. I've read the writings of Adam Smith and Karl Marx, both bring up valid points, there are benefits to competition and inspiring and rewarding ingenuity but there are also benefits to not allowing those who were disproportionatly blessed (with either intellect or chutzpa) from using their power to disenfranchise those who are not. Everyone who contributes to the functioning of a society should benefit from its output.

I have visited Communist block countries back in the 70s. Russian communism is different from China's. Since Russia allegedly fell, there are no longer countries that practice true socialism. China is also, secretly, embracing capitalism.

But for the sake of argument, lets say that mother Russia was still in it's glory. In communist countries, the government would supply all your needs(food, clothing, shelter), and of course they were a low income(best I can describe it) fullfillment of needs. Sneakers, jeans, nylon stockings, lingerie, would cost you over $200 back in the 70s. That's why we were told that if you take these on a trip, for what it was worth, you could enjoy the company of the best looking...if you get my drift ;)

Without the Russian Cold War-type of socialism, it is pretty much a capitalism version.

There are no countries practicing true Capitalism either, never was, never will be. The end result in the Capitalist model and competition is a Monopoly and the reality of the power of wealth wipes away the economic theories that economists cite as balancing forces.

China isnt being secretive at all about how its embracing Capitalism, however they are not embracing Democracy with the same vigor.

Thats where people get confused, they believe that Capitalism and Democracy and Freedom are an unalterable package, that in order for any of them to exist they must all be in place. Democracy and Freedom can exist without Capitalism.

You just love to throw out terms that sound good, but obviously you have not a clue what they mean. As Bob pointed out, what is going on is not socialism. Socialism involves (IN PART) redistribution of wealth downward. What has been going on in this country for some time is redistribution of wealth upward. As the song says, "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer."

Money has been redistributed from the working man to people with a hand out. However there is a lot of truth to what you say. I think if you read some of my past post you would find we actually think a lot alike.

Yea, I guess you feel they are the lucky ones and want to change places with them?

People arent getting rich off your money by being poor.

Funny how people are quick to blame the guy down on his luck looking for a job and ignore the fat cats who get bigger a better tax breaks and loop holes to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. That is why there will not ever be a flat rate.

I've have been resisting commenting on your political rants, but now I must question if you are who you said you were--a Tulsa Fleet Service Clerk who is getting laid off.
Not getting laid off. Laid off.

It would seem odd that for someone who makes $40k a year and is, or is getting laid off that you would be so negative about socialism, liberlism or any entitlement programs. Are you also against retraining programs that many of our co-workers are taking advantage of?
No. In fact I filed a petition for TAA on behalf of Fleet Service at TULE.

Politics aside, if you are who you say you are, you would be embracing any handout that would come your way if you are on the street.
Usually people end up on the street because they do not plan ahead. Unlike most I don't bury myself so far into debt the only way for me to survive is by "forced charity" and "embracing handouts". I am not against social programs, sometimes people just need a little help. What I am against is people making social programs a way of life.

Let me ask you this, have you filed for unemployment?
Yes I have.

Or is it that your just another international guy who is concerned that his taxes might up gone up because they are the only ones making anywhere near what it would take for a tax increase.
International guy? I assume you mean TWU international. No. I am exactly who I say I am. A laid off Fleet Service Clerk going to school post AA.

I did not say people were getting rich. I said people are turning social programs into a way of life.

So you admit you are on unemployment.

So now your way of life is living on a social program. You have become what you despise.

Ironic huh?

Now that you are laid off, did you file for the unemployment or retraining handout?

Nice try. American Airlines payed taxes to the government on my behalf to fund unemployment. That is why they call it Unemployment Insurance. You probably thought it was funded by individual taxes. It is not. Too bad we don't have the Ghent System here in the states, that way our crap UNION could get stuck with the bill instead of the company.

I did indeed file a petition for TAA. I made my thoughts on that very clear on the Stonewaalled thread. I will not rehash them here.

I have also stated I am not against social programs. I am however against their abuse.

Better luck next time Glenn.

Agree on the abuse but the abuse should be dealt with, not the program itself.

Unemployment compensation is money received from the United States and a state by a worker who has become unemployed through no fault of their own. In the United States, this compensation is classified as a type of social welfare benefit. According to the Internal Revenue Code, these types of benefits are to be included in a taxpayer's gross income.[sup][29][/sup]
