(Florida) STAND your GROUND--Part 2

You claimed people without training were running around with guns, and that was the problem. I simply rebutted that lie.

You then went off on a little rant about how inadequate or flawed the training must have been if only one of his eight shots hit a target, how he never should have fired in the first place, etc...

Proper training does teach you how safely handle a firearm, and in the case of the military, how to assess and respond to a threat.

If anything, Dunn probably had more training than the average CCW holder.

What I'm saying is regardless of one's training, there's no guarantee it will be applied when the time comes.

Every pilot who ever crashed into the side of a mountain or stalled out was trained on how to avoid terrain or avoid/recover from a stall.

Poor judgement happens. And sometimes people die as a result.

With out going over all the issues yet again. How exactly are your assumptions any more valid than mine?

I think the decisions he made and actions he took clearly show he had poor training/retention of training and poor judgement skills.

Your cavalier treatment of the fact that a kid died is disturbing and I believe hypocritical. I am willing to bet if it was your kid your opinion would be quite different.

A pilot making an error in flight is something the I am guessing is unintentional. Mr Dunns actions were very intentional.

My opinions based on the information available.

Apparently someone "WAS" actually being beaten, instead of just feeling threatened, when they used the SYG law !
It also looks like a little more than a bloody lip and nose !

The fact that there was an altercation was never in question. What is in question was how it all went down. Did Martin feel threatened and confronted Zimmerman to get him to back off? Did Zimmerman brandish the gun forcing Martin to fight for his life? No one knows how that part unfolded.

What is known is that Zimmerman pursued Martin and had he not done so he would not have placed him self in a position of feeling 'threatened' by Martin.

Martin is dead. I think a gun shot beats a bloody nose but may be that is just me. Martin cannot testify. It is Zimmermans word against a dead kid. The police released Zimmerman after questioning due to the fact that they had nothing to contradict Zimmermans account. Since Zimmerman had no duty to retreat and was allowed to stand his ground even though he was the one who placed him self in a dangerous position, I think there is a very good chance that Zimmerman will get away with murder.

So we go at it again.  Michael Dunn gets a hung jury because of the SYG law in Florida.

Michal Band and Ann Franks sum it up pretty well:

NY Times

This is why the Davis family and the parents of Trayvon Martin say they are joining forces with lawmakers to continue to fight to change Florida’s so-called Stand Your Ground law. George Zimmerman, who claimed self-defense, was acquitted in July of Mr. Martin’s shooting death. Under Florida self-defense laws, people can use lethal force and do not have to retreat if they “reasonably believe” it is “necessary” to save their lives or avoid great harm. The jury must, in essence, decide what a “reasonable person” would have done under similar circumstances. “The law takes the position that you have to step into the shoes of the defendant,” said Michael Band, a Miami criminal defense lawyer who was a longtime prosecutor in the city.

In court, it is the prosecutor’s burden to prove that a shooting was not self-defense. Also, whether there was a shotgun is not nearly as important under the law as whether Mr. Dunn believed he saw one and then reacted out of reasonable fear for his life. “If he really believed there was a gun, then he acted appropriately,” Mr. Band said.

The problem, Ms. Franks said, lies, in part, with the term reasonable, which is “squishy.” One person’s reasonable is another person’s overreaction. Getting 12 jurors with contrasting world views to agree on that is not a simple task — especially so in Jacksonville, which is 30 percent black, but is a conservative north Florida city. Add the racial overlay, and the case becomes more complicated. Mr. Dunn, a software developer, is white. Mr. Davis was black, as were his three companions.

Already posted a few days ago under Trayvon /Zimmerman.
Are we once again going to incessantly  argue your finite view of the law for days on end?

Only thing I saw in the Martin/Zimmerman thread was a comment about Zimmerman.

Don't like what I have to say feel free to ignore me or the entire thread.  It's a free country.

Excuse me, it was Stood His Ground.
Feel free to put us to sleep with endless blathering rants.

Did not see that one either. I haven Dell on ignore so never saw his post.

You have made all of 70 posts. Not like you are active here anyway so not sure why you felt compelled to voice your opinion here.

Don't like the issue or my posts ... Then bugger off or ignore me. I could not care less.

Do you even have an opinion on the issue?

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.

Then stop being a fool and complaining about my post and comment on the issue or just stay quiet.

According to Valerie (juror #4) the initial vote was 10-2 to convict.  After deliberations that changed to 9-3 to convict.  I wonder what the reasoning was for the 3 hold outs.  Given the evidence I do not see how they could not convict on murder.  I agree with Valerie that he got away with murder.  At least they nailed him for 3 counts of attempt.  Looks like he will never see the free world again.  Reading some of his testimony he sounds like a narcissistic prick.  Not an ounce of remorse.
