There is a new maintenance manager in LAX who came from NWA. Does anyone have any feedback on him? Thanks.

He must have been hired after the strike. The Manager at LAX when we went on strike was Mark Scherer (scab herder). He was sent from MCO to do the dirty work there.

The name groat is not from NWA Line MX prior to the strike.

I believe he might've been based in MSP or PIT before coming out to LAX. I believe he was a training instructor at NWA before coming to LAX to work for AA.

So James Grote is your new manager. Watch your back.
James Grote was a low level maintenance manager in DTW before the strike. He worked the night shift and sometimes the afternoons when they were short handed. I worked for two years in DTW and walked out on strike day, never to return. My memory of James Grote was that he was always following the other night manager, Chuck Dault, around like his little pet dog. It was a real short leash. Mutt and Jeff...Laurel and Hardy... He wouldn't get in a conversation with a mechanic unless the other manager was there nearby. The reason being is that he didn't know anything. It was the general opinion of the mechanics in the line zones that Grote took the manager job because he couldn't handle the mechanic position. "Dangerous" was the word they used to describe his maintenance of aircraft, "relieved" was the word they used when he went to management. He constantly deferred any questions to Chuck or another manager and never (and I mean NEVER) get in the middle of a discussion or issue with the maintenance of an aircraft. He would blow in to the room with his clipboard and then blow out. I hope that gives you a little information. Don't worry, he'll make all of this evident soon enough. Don't let him pressure you to get work done faster that it would take. The management in DTW was famous for that. Always standing, looking over your shoulder "encouraging" you to move a bit faster. I'm sure Grote learned this management technique from his peers in DTW. Don't expect him to go the extra mile for you. Or if you need something from him, have a plan B. And like I said...watch your back.

Checked with a buddy of mine who works at LA and he confirmed the following info.

JAMES GROAT
Line Maintenance at LAX
TITLE: AA Maintenance Manager
Current Position/Location: Shift Manager Hangar and Terminal
Probably a level 6 manager.
Don't know how long he has been with AA.
AA will hire anyone these days.
