Here's some more info on the incident, form amfa33.org:

A/C 6308 left Dtw after overnight 1/4 A check. #2 engine lost all oil. Shut down and dumped fuel and landed in MSP. I believe this happened on Thursday July 27th.

Flt. 429, Airbus A-320, ship 3237 aborted take-off in MCO today after an engine shutdown. Pilots blew at least one tire on stopping. The runway was shut down for a while.

Northwest flight has engine trouble, blows tire during takeoff

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Northwest Airlines pilot halted takeoff from Orlando International Airport after one of the plane's engines shut down Monday, authorities said.

Detroit-bound Flight 529 never made it into the air after a pilot saw smoke coming from one of the engines around 3:45 p.m., airport spokesman Rod Johnson said.

"The pilots aborted takeoff due to an engine that shut down," Northwest spokesman Roman Blahoski said.

Two of the plane's tires blew out as the pilots' slowed it down on the runway, Blahoski said.

No injuries were reported among the 146 passengers on board the Airbus 320.

All the passengers were bused back to the terminal, where they were being rebooked on other flights, authorities said. The plane was towed off the runway.

Authorities said the flames were spotted in an engine on a jetliner preparing to depart to Detroit at about 3:45 p.m, Local 6 News reported.

"The pilot declared an emergency and did an emergency stop," Sky 6 helicopter Pilot Dan McCarthy said. "I imagine for a few seconds passengers on the plane were quite scared."


There were no injuries on board and 151 passengers were bused to a terminal.

Officials said a tire also blew as it moved on the runway.

The plane will have to be towed from the runway.

An airport representative said the airports other three runways were operating normally Monday night.

Jenny, the "someone" who noticed the flames was probably a pilot on another plane waiting in line to take off, and they notified the tower about the problem.

I personally like this quote from your article - "I imagine for a few seconds passengers on the plane were quite scared." I bet that there were a couple of seat cushions that needed to be changed out in the flight deck too... 🙂

The scabs have sure been making the pilots at NW earn their (40% smaller) paychecks lately! 😉

I'll say DTW, which was all started due to a feces hurling altercation breaking out between two passengers in coach. One large projectile will glance off a first class passenger, causing a civil war in the cabin (first class vs coach). The coach passengers, despite their excessive carry-ons and bad body odor, will manage to take over the first class cabin, but will become confused with the pleasant FA demeanor and food and drink offerings. In their confused state, they will retreat back to their more familiar territory in coach, all they while being bombarded with blackberries and Wall Street Journals from the first class battalion. In the confusion of battle, one of the blackberries will accidently get turned on, which causes the Captain to make an emergency landing.
