You assumed we were fully staffed in June, July, and August of '01? Well you assumed wrong. There were so many open shifts back then that we were never fully staffed on any day of the week. As a matter of fact We were so short staffed from the fall of 1999 until 9-11-01 that they would have to mandatory rampers from daywork to stay and work the night shift. Even after the mandatory overtime filled some of the shifts there were still anywhere from 20-40 shifts uncovered on any given day, and almost every Saturday and Sunday. In fact we just went through another period of time, from the late 2002 until mid 2003, that the company had the need to mandatory for overtime every day of the week. Again, the solution to this problem is completely out of the ramper hands. You'll have to take it up with management, and as I said in my earlier post you'll find that the problem is at the very top of our Executive chain.PineyBob said:You know what! I'll conceed all of the rest of you points EXCEPT this one.
I did not tell you when I did this test on purpose. I did it in June, July and August of 2001. PHL ramp was I assume fully staffed back then? I have heard this load of crap so many times. It IMO opinion is typical of why PHL and to a lesser extent PIT will always be backwater towns because of the negative attitude.
IMO this is that Philly Attytoode in full bloom! I worked in Center City for close to 10 years and i saw that kind of stuff first hand in other companies. I have heard rumors regarding the conduct of the baggage handlers at PHL for US and it's not fair to repeat them without some factual backup. But the fact the rumors have been around since forever tells me there might be a basis in fact.
I wouldn't say that PHL is a "backwater town", but we are definately a 'blue collar' town, and that won't change. I think some peoples negative attitude comes from the conditions we've worked under since the early 90s. I don't like the attitude at times either, but I know that customer service stinks at a lot of places around this country now a days. From the local convenience store all the way up to the big corporations. It's sad.
We've heard all the rumors regarding rampers and baggage, and in my almost 25 years I've never found one to be true. They're urban legends. Ask me anything you want about them in PM and I'll tell you how they got started.
I have a question for you, off topic. My original post in this thread was to something posted by a320av8r. You responded to it as if I had I had responded to your post. I'm just curious as to why, it threw me off a bit. Not that I mind talking to you.
Have a good day.
