UK, Thx for ur support

First I would like to extend my condolances to the employees of United. You have been dealt a harsh blow. Many of you know that I represent an English/European view that is often chracterized as ''socialist.'' I feel this an unfair chracterization but I often wonder if the government has ever considered that letting UAL fail will cost the taxpayer MORE in the long run than helping it. Think of what America pays for oil. Tens of naval vessels in the Gulf, thousands of troops, strained political relations with nearly every country all for $1.50 a gallon of petrol when the true cost to the taxpayer is more like $4. So Mr. Bush will let UAL fail, pay millions in unemployment and discomfiture fees just so a businessman can pay $50 for a ticket on Jet Blue. Yes, cost the taxpayer millions so he saves a hundred. Frankly I think your ideal of free market is good but its implementation is criminal.
Second, Mr. Tilton is an apt leader. Would not your bankruptcy judge lean on his expertise during a reorginization? I realize the control is in the hands of the judge but the execution must be in the CEO''s hands. I think there is too much emphasis placed on all the creditors running the show. Actually the creditors have claims that are vetted through the judge while Mr. Tilton is responsible for turning the company around while the judge holds these same creditors at arms length.
Third. It truly pains me to have read some of the rhetoric that has been published on this forum. To see employees of other carriers tear into the workers of UAL is nothing less than distasteful. For those few that have experienced the horror of combat under any flag know that these parallels between business and war are hollow and only serve to debase those that use them. Mr Gecko quoted from the ''Art of War.'' and looked greedy in doing so. There are those on these boards that use the same language in delighting in the demise of UAL. They should be ashamed. Little do they realize how selfish they appear and why others around the world will tolerate an American businessman but never trust him.
I wish all those at UAL the very best of luck. You will be the better men and women than your detractors as they have shown their true colors.
Keep the stiff upper lip - it helps.

UAL747mech,

Are you sure you are a mechanic. Your awfully friendly and supportive of United's success. I sincerely appreciate your perspective from the mechanic ranks. Usually we only see the militant fringes making negative posts here. Reminds me that everyone is still on the same team when the dust settles. Thanks

LOL, Yes, I am a mechanic but hopefully not for long, I don't think I can take this for long. A lot of my colleagues are still in denial were in this predicament. Oh well!, they're about to find out that Bankruptcy is not a good thing. I think the vote would've pass but there still a lot mechs that don't know what they're about to see.

Thanks for the good words. I too am disgusted at the low levels people stoop to. There is alot of venum on this board from others, even before UA has filed for CH11. Let them think what they want. In the end, UA will survive and eventually make a strong come back. I think Glen Tilton will suprise everyone, from the skeptical "experts" and "analysts", to the very employees of United.

United is down, but not out! No matter how hard our opponents hope and pray, we will not go away. As far as the employees go, we have some of the best talent in the industry. In EVERY department. We still have the best route structure, other's are envious of. We've been running an excellent operation. We truly have one of the best products out there. I've seen our competitors product. Not just as a passenger, but also behind the scenes. The maintenance, training and flight departments. We truly are the best and have much to be proud of. What we've been missing is competent leaders and labor peace. Having Tilton fixes one of those shortcomings. Now if we can fix labor relations and expedite our exit from CH11 (assuming we file) this place will turn around.

To all my fellow employees,

Keep the faith! We need each other more than ever before. Look out for each other. Take care of our customers. Don't be distracted by the negative comments of our opponents. UNITED we stand. UNITED WILL SURVIVE. It's time to pull on the same end of the rope as hard as we can!
