Because religious zealots know what's best for you and are perfectly willing to deny equal rights to those they disagree with. Equality and the COTUS are secondary to their religious beliefs. They believe that their religious beliefs supersede any laws by man. Never mind the fact that others have their own beliefs and that US law is secular.
