A proud and exciting day, and a victory forward! Personally, I couldn't be happier... nothing can stem the tide now! 🙂

I think I read that now 30 states allow marriage equality.  I do not see how the court could reverse this.

Congrats.

Yep.  Twenty seven states now with more on the way.  Nice to see the GOP still fighting it is some states.  Takes resources away from other things.  Fighting marriage equality now makes no sense.  It's here.  Deal with it.

I am currious if the 5th or 6th circut appeals court will go against the prevailing argument to force the SCOTUS hand or if they will see the light and accept that these laws violate the 14th and be done with it.  SO far all the appeals courts have reversed all the bans thus alowing the SCOTUS to steer clear of this hornets nest.

If this does end up before the SCUOTS I think it will be a 5/4 (or better) decison.  I would not be surprised if the decision come out with a better than 5/4 split.  I do not think that Scalia and the rest want to be on the wrong side of history regarding equal rights in the US.  Looking at the decison in Brown and Loving seem to point in that direction.

All of this back and forth ignores the fundamental question.

Does Government have the moral or legal right to tell you how to live your life? Beyond enforcement of contracts and private property rights it would appear certain that the Federal Government has no rights whatsoever on the issue of marriage. It would also seem that the same be true of tobacco, drug and alcohol use, prostitution and other matters of personal choice. Yet the government sticks it's nose in anyway.

A simple "Civil Union Contract" that defines the roles, responsibilities of the partnership and provides a framework to resolve financial conflict like inheritance and end of life decisions as well as dissolution of the contract is all that is required for an orderly society. The religious covenant of "Marriage" would and should be handled by the various churches, mosques, temples, kingdom hall's, tabernacles and synagogues throughout the USA.

IF the stated role of government is to preserve the Liberty of its citizens then the above allows for maximum Liberty AND protection of the individuals entering into a contract. Marriage is NOT a role for government as it IMO violates separation of church and state

I agree for the most part but I think there are legitimate government/public interests in some of the things you mentioned.  Prostitution if not regulated like in NV brings a host of issues such as child prostitution, spread of disease and the increased likely hood of female slavery/servitude as well as abuse.  While I am leary of going down the road of saying one drug is less harmful than another, I think it is pretty safe to say that meth of cocaine is far more harmful than tobacco or alcohol for the most part.  I have read various studies in the past that showed increased societal costs from medical to family for harder drugs.  SO again I think society does have an interest.  Where that interest ends and where personal freedom start is a blurry line.

I wholeheartedly agree that government has no interest whatsoever in who I choose to marry.

On a side note, I read this interview with Olsen and Perkins.  Pretty funny.  Perkins gets his butt handed to him.

I wonder if he realized that the Supreme court judges are not elected but seated in the exact same manner that the Federal judges that is is complaining about.  I also wonder if he understands that only 4 judges are needed to have a case seen before the court and there are 4 conservative judges who did not see the need to reverse the unanimous decisions of the federal appellate l courts who have rendered decisions.  I guess since Perkins is a captain of the ship he needs to put on a brave face and put up the good fight. Given that most of the people who follow this moron do not know the slightest thing about the US justice system I guess he is in no risk of being called out by his own people.

Well ALL of the things I mentioned other than marriage would require certain regulations formulated by the states.

As for Prpstitution the folks in the Netherlands have a pretty good system set up as does Portugal for so called hard drugs. I just din't want to muddy up the basic point. Even a Civil Union Contract would require an age of consent.

OK. I thought you were looking for complete self monitoring no government regulation.

Libertarians believe in Maximum Liberty not total anarchy. You have to make an effort to keep non adults and those unable to consent due to age or infirmity out of the mix

Gays don't care about that. They only care about the government "legitimizing" their deviant behavior. They seek to impose acceptance of that which the people would not willingly accept.

No one cares whether you accept marriage equality or not.  No one can force you to accept anything.  Same baseless argument was used for suffrage, civil rights, interracial marriage and a host of other hate based laws.
