Get rid of Pensions? OP-ED

First, I'm just trying to play the advocate here, telling you how management might try to sell concessions or at least the status quo. I'm not saying who's lucky to have a job or isn't or what the execs should or shouldn't be getting. As to why AMR didn't file in 2003: there was no need after labor "agreed" to concessions. By not filing they still have that option to use at a time of their liking.

All more the reason to stop the scare tactics. File already. They are used to screwing employees without the benefit of the courts. Seniority wise, AA has to shut its doors before they get to me.

And until then, I'll do my best to keep AA's stock to sewer levels thru bad on time performance

Can you say Eastern Airlines?

AApathy Airlines can crash and burn and hopefully frugal flyer will be on that flight. We have given too much for too long and will let this ship sink.

cross country flight for a tight ass frugal flyer 99$
engine shell out due to skipped maintenace to afford cheap tickets 0$
slow reactions of pilot due to being overworked and working second job 0$
crash and burn due to demand of frugal flyers and corporate greed 0$
frugal flyer's eternal demise in hell for wishing bad upon all others....PRICELESS!!!

what is it you do for a living frugal flyer? Flip hamburgers or stand on street corner? Peddling cheap nasty meat either way. And hate and discontent for free?

What would you know about airfares? When was the last time you paid 100% out of your own pocket? What do you know about my spending at AA or any other airline?

🙄 Don't you know that in a recession $99 fares are a rip-off?

 Good thing there are 2 engines. The remaining working one will be enough to get me safely to the nearest airport - so I can call an attorney for a lawsuit ASAP

 Not worried here either. With modern technology and gadgets like TCAS the airplanes basically fly themselves.

 Don't you know that in a crash, a person like me would not hesitate to push the elderly, women and children out of my way to get to the emergency exit / slide!

May the Lord bless you and keep you in His grace also.

Despite the emoticons and implied sarcasm, there's an underlying sense that there are some who
believe these statements have a ring of truth. That's one of the biggest problems in the industry.

When you are in the inside looking out .... then come and talk. Your outside view is old and staled We aren't buying that crap anymore...
The company wants everyone to think just like you..... Well it's not going to work this time around.
Maark,
They don't know how right you are! That's one of the problems with the company.

During the last furlough I went from a D2 passenger to executive AAdvantage in a year. Although, I flew several other carriers during that same time I thanked my upright walking God when I got to fly on AA. I know what it cost to purchase flights, rental cars and rooms.

$99 is a bargain sir.

What were the results of the last two aircraft incident reports?

CREW FATIGUE

Yeah, sign up to fly commercial planes. You will be paid about 30K a year and only be allowed to leave your seat to pee and stretch.

Computers don't fail?

Ask Honeywell about that one Frug.

I know you're kidding here, right? <_<

AA is NOTHING like Eastern Airlines. I have worked at both, have you? Arpey is mother Teresa compared to Lorenzo. At EAL we were paid less than AA, UA, DL, etc. we wanted what they had. Lorenzo wanted to pay us CO wages which were waaaaaaaaay below even EAL wages. They were so low that they would embarass a third world bus driver. Presently at AA, were the highest paid legacy. Yes, we make less than WN in terms of rates of pay but we have superiority in other areas. I wonder how good those 401ks of current WN retirees are doing.

And you forgot to mention that CO mechanics make more than us and have BOTH a defined pension plan and 401k with match.

WN 401ks have done no better nor worse than anyone else's.

If CO mechanics had a company match to their 401k, I would have thought that AA would mention it on the website:

http://www.aanegotiations.com/MechanicsPensions.asp

AA claims that CO mechanics have no defined contribution plan.

CO mechanics' max pay is 24 cents an hour higher than AA's.

WN 401ks have done no better nor worse than anyone else's.

That's true, but I think that aafsc's point is that the retired WN mechanics are much poorer than they were a couple years ago (aren't we all?), while the retired AA employees have fared well with their defined benefit pension.

When things recover (as they always do), the retired WN employees may very enjoy a more lavish retirement.

Hysterical......Cheap fares have come at the expense of worker's wages and safety.....

Why would AA mention if CO had a 401K match? It wouldnt help their side of the arguement.

CO mechs hourly rate may only be 24 cents higher but they earn at least $10,000 a year more than we do based on Holiday pay, Vacation and other Contractual adavantages they have-and thats before OT, and they are currently in negotiations.

By the way, I'm presently sitting in an airport waiting for my full fare flight-couldn't risk not getting on. It sure feels good not having the stress of standby.
