I have always thought USA and America West would make a good marriage. I even put this out in a newsletter to some friends a few years back after looking at the route structures of both and fleet.

I didn’t think however, that Doug would bring Harrison & Ford onto the property and destroy the gains with ugly negotiating tactics. :down: We have seen what it did to the morale here at USA and I believe that they did the same while at AW was it back in the 90’s?

The union leadership at every group should walk out of negotiations until they are off the property. Let’s take the 500 million we would save from paying them and put it back into the company and do this the correct way.

It's not about the KoolAid. Let's get real for a minute. It's very likely that neither US and AWA would both be gone from the picture today if this merger hadn't gone through.

While I think the Sandcastle is showing that it's still got a steep learning curve ahead of it, the fact is this merger is going as well (or better) than most expected. Lots of mistakes have been made and more will be made, but the airline is still operating, customers still have service and many still have jobs (no, not all).

Would I have done some things differently? yes. But, on balance, Doogie and Co. get a passing grade for now.

Why is it that whenever someone is the LEAST bit optomistic about the "new US" they're accused of being koolaid drinkers? Yes, there are things that could have been done better, but get a grip! It's likely that without it all our futures would be looking a LOT different than they do now...
