I have received a phone call from a previous AA Licensed AMT who quit after 17 years to join the Railroad.

He reports better pay and better benefits.

For those that might be facing loss of job in MCI, I thought you might be interested in this information.

Union Pacific Railroad has many job openings.

Union Pacific Career and Job Listings

This information is NOT just for the RIF's as the starting pay is about $45,000.00 for a conductor and they train you. After 5 years they make nearly $75,000.00 per year. My friend reports that the health and retirement benefits are also superior to your industrial union sellout package at American Airlines.

Check for Train Service Employee

A train service employee is responsible for the safe movement of freight trains and switching of cars in the yards. Specific functions will include frequently climbing ladders to board standing or moving cars, operating hand brakes, coupling air hoses between cars, operating track switches, inspecting cars, and using hand and lantern signals, radio communications, and remote control technology to control train movement. Chicago area train service personnel may be required to become suburban (passenger) ticket collectors, which entails the purchase of a uniform and the handling of cash. This is not a typical 40-hour-a-week opportunity; the position consists of variable and irregular work hours, with irregularly scheduled days off. Train service employees work weekends and holidays on an "on call" basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Travel is required, and personnel must be available to report to work 90 minutes after notification.

Sounds like an AMT Position, but starting is better @ $45,000.00 and increases to $75,000.00.

Good Luck
