Just curious. $20/hr in Indy would be comparable to what in the Bay Area, or other high cost-of-living areas?

Tell us.
$20 hr is top wage with no definition of benefits.
Don't troll and heve us do the work for you, be a leader.

@UT: WTF!

Just tired of the Bu11####.
$20 an hour should not even be on the table, then they cry about not enough mechs.
There are plenty of 'experienced' Mechs out 'here' but are not willing to work for crap wages and crap benefits.
Their 'lead in' of not enough mechs is a precursor to more H1B visas to fill the 'viod'.

There is no 'viod' other than qualified people will not work for the crap wages offered.

Your 'complicity' in this theology, simply pi$$ed me off, as 'you' should know better.

Wow, topping out at under 50K a year for a highly experienced mech. It pays better to work on Kia's. Definately a sad comentary on the industry. But look at the bright side, all the glamour of the aviation profession is PRICELESS and you can space-a during your time off (if you think you can get on a jet with a 90% system wide load factor and you can get time off your OTHER job you've got to do to make ends meet....)

Try topping out at 42k...unless you're an inspector. That should be starting pay for freshly minted A&P's.

No, I wouldn't come back to this industry either. Airlines can't beat the savings at outsource centers and outsource centers can't afford quality employees. You cannot have a quality outfit without quality people. Quality people will not undersell themselves. (Just look at management retention bonuses)

No matter how you torture the numbers, this formula will never equal safety.

I just carried the farm tractor to the shop for repairs, their shop rate is $ 70.00 per hr.

Just curious. $20/hr in Indy would be comparable to what in the Bay Area, or other high cost-of-living areas?
$20 per hour = $41,743 annual.

• To maintain the same standard of living, your salary of $41,743 in Indianapolis, Indiana should increase to $89,226 in San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, California
• Stated another way, it's 113.8% more expensive to live in San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, California than Indianapolis, Indiana

Another ( orchestrated by our inveterately plutocratic government ) self-fulfilling prophecy: Downward pressure on AMT compensation has come home to roost....another of the increasing list of "Jobs Americans won't do". Uh-oh! We'll have to lower qualifications ( though I'm sure some MRO industry mouthpiece will come up with a more sanguine sounding white-washed term like "qualification rationalization" ) to maintain staffing levels....at what we want to pay.

Maggots.
