Rumor has it that AQ only has operating cash thru Monday, unless they find a buyer or another source of financing...

Aloha used to provide on-call maintenance for AA, and also did ground handling for AA at one point.

Does anyone here know if AA is still using AQ for ground handling?

Also, there's supposedly a non-rev "warning" advising against D2 & D3 travel to Hawaii...

Maybe they should "put the arm" ($$$) on "DOLE"

They've got a LOT of $$$ !

ps,

Eric,
from what I can tell, if Aloha goes UNDER, UAL appears to get hurt the worst out there.

I just took vacation on Oahu, unfortanetly I did not pay attention as to who was doing the ground handling. Someone has offered to buy the cargo unit of Aloha, havn't heard what their response is. Either way I feel for the people at Aloha. No non-rev warnings for the islands other than the normal D3 embargo June-August.

Wonder how the judgement against Mesa/Go plays into all of this.

AQ's case against Mesa doesn't go to trial until next month. If they do shut down, a potential lawsuit settlement or judgement could be one of their larger assets....

Advisory was forwarded to me... it's in N*SYSHOT, which is a useless place to put a warning because only airport agents bother to read it...

. *** HAWAII NON-REV ADVISORY ***
DUE TO POSSIBLE TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS WITH ANOTHER AIRLINE
NON-REV TRAVEL TO HAWAII IS CURRENTLY DISCOURAGED.

I was in Maui about 6 months ago, and yes it was Aloha gate agents. I couldn't tell who was doing the maintenance check that was being done.

Just checked the title 3 senority list for HNL, sixty rampers there.

sounds like there is enough work to make HNL an AA MX station......

HNL has been insourced since the beginning of time... but LIH, KOA, and OGG are outsourced to AQ according to a friend at HDQ.

US is supposedly sending agents and clerks into those stations from the mainland "just in case..."

I wonder if they are having trouble finding any volunteers? 😉

As much as I enjoy taking vacation on the islands I'm not sure about living there. Besides I don't think they have enough flights to warrant maintenance.

Not on the maintenance side of things at HNL. They have had a supervisor their forever, but no mechanics to speak of, all outsourced. They certainly have had enough flights to justify it with 6 767s and 2 757s a day, or around 3,000 flights a year. Too bad we don't have any language in the contract requiring the comapny to have maintenance at a station with this many flights. The current language just makes the company stafe a "twu" worker, not a mechanic. Thank you twu...

The Company will continue to assign American Airlines TWU represented employees in classifications, consistent with its established practices, as designated by the Company to all stations wherein such TWU represented employees are assigned currently with 1460 and above annual departures and will staff new cities (those not currently staffed by the TWU) at or over 3650 annual departures. The Company will also restaff former TWU staffed cities with 1460 and above annual departures

Well, the fat lady is about to sing.... but it doesn't affect their ground handling or cargo operation, so the impact to AA isn't going to be so bad. 1900 of the 3500 employees lose their jobs, the other 1600 stay employed with Cargo or contract handling. For now, at least...

There's another thread up and running over in Regionals and Nationals to discuss this:
