How is DL doing in the PHL-BOS market

Fares are back to about 1000 roundtrip. There were 14 pax on my plane today. What are the loads like?

The schedule seems more frequent than originally announced with convenient times. Great service even though they lost the plane. Everyone was very apologetic...something I haven't seen at US since Tempe moved in.

I am Plat on CO so this DL service is great for me as it helps to divert virtually all of my US biz to other carriers who appreciate their biz customers.

There is an avg of 4 flights a day (dec) with an avg load of 15-20 passengers.
I guess thats why in jan it looks like they are going to three flights a day.

Although in March the route gets bumped up to 6x daily, so apparently DL thinks or hopes the route will grow. With FL gone and yields high, they might have a chance.

DL should have no problem skimming the cream off the top in the form of Biz pax seeking other service than US. WN + US have all the low fare folks locked up in MHT & PVD, leaving the high yield folks for this service.

On the 6 pm flight from BOS to PHL and it is packed. Glad to see it. I'm not sure what the Comair rep is but these people are nice. Handing water bottles to all boarding pax. Nice touch. US thinks it knows its competiton...HA

Update...we are delayed for fueling...the f/a is walking around the cabin asking people if they want more water and she came out with the snack basket which is the better than US serves in FC.

I can almost guarantee you won't see mainline on this route. The smallest mainline plane DL has is the MD88 which seats 142. Using the MD88 at a competitive level of frequency would be way too much capacity. DL doesn't want to trash yields, just skim a little cream from the route.

If the route does well, you could eventually get an upgrade to the CRJ900 which does have first class.

1. On US they wouldn't have made any annoucement. Sometimes pax just want to know what is going on. Good job communicating.

2. The gate was PISSED and was making calls left and right and arguing with other employees about finding the aircraft. On US many wouldn't care.

3. The flight crew couldn't have been nicer and more apologetic. The delay was minimal, too, compared to my experiences at the new and awful USAirways.

4. DL screwed up but they did what they could to minimize the situation.
