I am just curious. How are things for fa's in Denver? Are the lines going very senior?
How long are you on RSV, or is it very senior also? Have they decreased flying in the DEN market, or is everything becoming TED?? THX. 🙂

20 years reserve. Crap flying. No international. The new LHR flights are going to be flown by the LHR base f/a's. (wow, sounds like all of the US flying)

Keep in mind though that the "20 years on reserve" is really on reserve only every other month, as UA has a rotating reserve system. (Still sucks compared to being off reserve completely, but it should be pointed out, especially to someone used to a straight reserve system.)

But in general, Fly is right. DEN is generally considered to have the worst flying in the system, and is very senior. Lots of Prairie Patrol (DEN-BIL-DEN-ICT-layover-ICT-DEN-AUS-DEN-SLC-DEN type of trips). But it is a nice place to live, which explains why people put up with the crap flying and seniority.

1. At first glance, I thought this going to be another of Flyingman's threads...

2. "Prairie Patrol." Absolutely hilarious!

Are things really that bad in DEN? The flying sux???
I am an old HP fa, US now based in PHX. Things could not be that bad, especially if you are use to flying domestic flying.
PHX-BOI Layover 14 hrs
BOI-PHX-ABQ-PHX-SNA 13 hrs
SNA-LAS-JFK 17hrs
JFK-PHX
4 day trip. Sound familar? How bad is that? We do have worse pairings with more legs.
PHX-DFW-LAS-LAX-LAS 10 hrs
LAS-ANC-LAS 10 hrs
LAS-SEA-LAS-SAN 15hrs
SAN-PHX-ELP-PHX
Or another
PHX-SMF-PHX-IAH 13 hrs
IAH-PHX-DEN-PHX-ABQ 11 hrs
ABQ-PHX-BUR-PHX-SAT 16hrs
SAT-PHX
Is that bad flying? Some trips have good credit. We have a lot of two day trips too. Way easier.

It's all relative. UA flying in DEN sucks compared to flying at other UA bases. If you are used to that type of flying it is probably not too bad.

(Yes, personally, I would consider the pairings you posted "bad" flying. But some people don't like int'l and would prefer schedules like that.)

I work for USAIR (well im a reserve) so having said this Im gathering some info - how does your system UA work as far as how long you are on reserve? Does everyone rotate? when do you start to hold a block. also how many qualified language speakers do you on international. thank you very much

For your first five years, you are on straight reserve until you can hold a line. At some bases which have gotten a lot of new hires lately you can be off reserve fairly quickly.

Once you hit your fifth year of flying, if you are still on reserve at your base, you start rotating and are guaranteed a line ("block" in USAirways-speak) every other month (if you want one -- you can still bid reserve if you want to). The flip side to the rotating system is that it pushes people who otherwise would have held a line under a "straight reserve" system back onto reserve every other month to create lines for those who otherwise would not hold lines under a straight reserve system. At some senior bases (HNL, DEN, SEA), you may be rotating for decades before you can become a straight lineholder and not have to worry about reserve every other month.

Int'l flights have two language qualified (LQ) positions.
