What's new

how much does this screw-up cost?

Why not have a little respect for those people who love their job, and are doing it the way they are taught. If you have a problem with Republic and the sale of MDA why not talk to US Airways, the company which sold "MDA" off.. why blame the Republic Flight Attendants or call them "scabs" even though, they (we) aren't..(there are "MDA" flight attendants now working here at RW.. ) We applied for a posted job, with an airline and it just so happened this airline aquired another. Deal with it.
First off, respect is earned, not given.

You might not a scab, but you ARE a Replacement Worker. There is NO argument about that (afterall Republic's airline code is RW). The fact is that you are doing someone else's job, in their former aircraft, from their former bases, and using their company's identity. So "scab", no...

But I would not hold your breath waiting for some measure of respect "just because".

You want respect? fine. Do the job better, cheaper, and more professionally than we ourselves can, and you might earn a little. Because, it is OUR customers and OUR reputation that you are now responsible for.

But from personal experience, I have been less than impressed with Republic from the times I have had to fly on your aircraft. So much so that I made up my mind to decline taking a position with Republic, even though I could have been a Captain there. No thanks, I'd rather fly elsewhere (points to avatar) while awaiting a recall. IMO, you and your operation have a long ways to go.

The problem is that there is a world's difference between a major airline pretending to be an express carrier, and an express carrier pretending to be a major airline. I am betting that you do not even "get" what I am talking about when I say that, which only proves my point.

Is it unfair that you are held to a different standard than the other express carriers. Nope. You get "special" treatment not just because you directly replaced our jobs (rather than smaller aircraft replacing mainline aircraft ala Mesa or PSA), but because Airways passengers see little difference between the E-170 and Mainline aircraft (vs. a Dash or CRJ). As the example was given before, we have not had to suffer embarrasment over a PDT Aircraft ever blowing a slide.

That picture of a slide deployed, or anything else that your company does wrong makes OUR company look bad, not some unknown entity called "Republic". So heck yeah we will come down hard on you if you are anything less than perfect. That will not change until the day you no longer fly for US Airways...

So "deal" with that sport.

wow. im a us airways f/a in the emb division until next month. this will be the second time i'll get furloughed and it's going to hurt even more this time because it meant more for us at mda and this time we are being REPLACED. i feel like crying when i finish a trip and i know i'll be a mess when the date comes that i'm grounded again. at least i'll be able to say i was part of something i think was really special. it made me broke and made a big fool of me moving back east for this company to be left with nothing, not even a thank you. but i wouldn't trade it in. everything happens for a reason and what goes around comes around. rico- that is awesome and the best description of this whole f'd up mess i've heard. especially this part above that sums it up.

MDA is and was and always will be main line

Agreed...

And Republic is and always will be Chautauqua.

And by that, I mean the "SAAB and Jetsteam Chautauqua".

Corporate Culture and Mentality can permeate an airline operation long after it has traded in it's turboprops for jets.

I do not want to sound mean spirited, but I will not lower my expectation, that our customers get the same level of quality service that we provided while the E-170 operation was our own.

Period.

Republic Airlines whole existence hinges on hundreds of US Airways employees losing thier hard-earned careers.

Well, actually it's entire existance (as it is today) hinges upon ALPA's continuing habit of being stupid on scope.

Republic's reliability in Key West gave them their very FIRST nonstop to Charlotte on Saturday.

PSA saved EYW again. Over 300 customers affected by the E170s 🙁

Why is Republic taking more mechanical delays, namely down south, than MAA did?

And what's the deal with tomorrow's nonstop CLT-EYW? They already planning on scrubbing the regularly scheduled flights like they typically do or are they just testing out this route (8850 I believe is the flight nbr)?

They might as well plan on running an extra section every day to clean up the mess from earlier cancellations and delays.

RP FA's are NOT allowed to even touch the door upon arrival into the gate area. The DOOR is opened by the AGENT from the OUTSIDE. Some of the slide deployments are inadvertant and at no ones fault except for the airplane itself. This i believe was one of those occasions.

Would you buy a car made in Brazil? I wouldnt.... or France for that matter! ~tailwinds, lata!

Airbus produces planes in Toulouse France.

To be perfectly honest, I'm glad the slide deployed (as advertised), but am sorry that it was deployed. Slides are never tested, only pressure gauges are checked. One of the dirty little secrets to the traveling public is the high degree of failure of slide deployments during evacuations. I dont have the industry figure off hand, but its huge. So I'm glad it worked.

A little extra care goes a long way.

Slides are tested, guess you never worked third shift on the line.

Somebody inside the plane touched the door. The slide is designed not to deploy if the door is opened from the outside.

Regarding the slide, it just fell out of the bottom of the door and inflated. Can't really blame the FA or the agent opening the door.

And the PSA flights are our life-savers. Saturday the entire island was full, FLL was full, we couldn't find ANY taxis (except TWO!) to take passengers out of here, the car rental agencies were full, and had NO WHERE to put 150 passengers. PSA came to the rescue (Thank you EOC & Tamer!) and sent us a CRJ200 from CLT... put a bunch to MCO, flew back to EYW then up to CLT nonstop saturday night.

Tomorrow, Monday, we have an "insurance" flight 8850/8851 --- meaning we have the extra section to move other passengers, which we needed anyway --- so if Republic tanks we at least have a CRJ that can fly back & forth to FLL and get our customers home. There are NO spares anywhere near Florida... CLT is the closest and that's a 2 hour flight away.
