Way back in the last Century before I had a computer (1989), I was a member
of the EAA, and an aircraft called the Sky Pup caught my eye as a possible
subject for a scale model.

I mailed away for the brochure, etc. and got a real complete package. I
decided to build it for a Cox .020 Pee Wee.

To make a long story short, it was published in FM.

In an effort to see the real aircraft, I checked the list of owners, and
found Bert Howland in Maryland, NY, a rural upstate small town. I called
Bert, and he invited me up for a visit, so Marlene and I drove up to meet
Bert.

It was a long drive, but worth it. Bert was a genial host, and we discovered we had similar Navy backgrounds, and hit it off real well. He had a spread of his own airport and hangar which he called his little heaven. He showed me the Sky Pup he had built, plus some fantastic homebuilts of his own design, which dotted his little airport.

After a nice visit, we left and Bert said he would mail me a few off a few of his drawings, which he did.

These are almost good enough to build models from as they are. They are in the 12"-25" range, different scales, but with places like KINKO's available, any size could be built. These are the H-3 and H-4 aircraft.

I'd like to see someone draw these up as model plans for distribution in their line. Also, if anyone is interesting in just building them, let me know, and I can send them off. They are not copyrighted.

I suggest you bookmark this site for reference.

Bert Howland has Flown West, but he was a real genius of a man, and a fantastic designer and builder.
