AIRWOMAN...I agree that strength from within the Unions is necessary..but it again boils down to the character and strength of those within the Trade Unions. We are already starting off as a house divided..and this will not be in anyones favor but the competition
Frankly...The Strength from within the Unions are lacking , as we can see from what is taking place with the AMFA Strike at NW..and even the UAW within the US Automotive Industry. Unions as a whole will never have any real strength again...until they either have the ability to make work and services cease..or the fear of crossing a picket line becomes to great for a Scab to risk. Until those possibilities become viable again...the rest is just lip service and Corporate America seems to know this.
IMHO...Your questions are for the most part valid ones..but Not being presently Unionized , leaves you without a vote in the current IAM/IBT debate anyway you slice it. So in reality..the frequency and concerns of your posts seem to be a designed to create more mis-trust between the two groups than anything. Maybe de-certification of the Unions is exactly the self-serving thing you are hoping for? Other real and current Trade Union Members have to ask this question of you , in light of the volumn and content of your posts.
I can understand the concern of acreetion...but regardless of which, or if either Union wins out? Acreetion would be a long ways down the road..if it is even a valid concern to begin with? Under ideal and un-contested conditions..the last one took almost three years before it became fact.
U's Acreetion of the Planners , MOC Tech's and Tech Doc Specialists took place under very much different times..as U saw no reason to even challenge it. U's leadership at that time was not concerned about such a fight..as they were focused solely on polishing up the Name Brand and either selling it or merging it...and going away with Millions in their pockets. One has to see that the strategy worked in respect to Wolf and Gangwhal...and even Dave Siegel if you look at it clearly.
I will answer your question here, in front of anyone who cares to read this. NO, I am NOT in any way, trying to create mistrust between any one individual or group. I am seeking information as I have always stated and offering my opinions and/or views. I also am NOT looking for the decertification of any union for any purpose, let alone a self serving one. I have been a union member so I do understand. My purpose again, is to try and get information and listen to the opinions of others and draw my own conclusions. Just as I offer information and opinions when I have them.
Yes, acreetion into a union is a valid concern of mine. I want to know what I may be facing in the future and NOT because I don't agree or disagree with unions or non union representation. I don't think that is an error on my part. And what if it does take years? What if takes a much shorter period of time? I personally, want to have the information.
And please, let me say, that the information you have provided is welcomed......as well as the information other posters have provided. I would not be aware of these things if they had not posted. There again, this is why I ask questions. I will speak only for myself as not to imply that I am speaking for anyone else......I have asked for information from ALL sides in this matter and gotten a lot back. Without information, I don't feel as I am informed to the level that I would feel comfortable making a choice......whether or not I have a vote. There are still choices.
And I agree with you, we are starting with a divided house..........all the way around. And dialogue, sharing information and opinions, IMHO, may benefit everyone.
