Over the past six months I've had half a dozen decent job offers but I turned every one of them down. Why? I guess because the status quo wasn't quite shiity enough or because I didn't want to say goodbye to all of the great friends and really great people who work for United Airlines. Maybe it was because I didn't want to leave the home where we've lived for the past 12 years, my neighbors and family. There are probably a lot of reasons why we have all stayed and put up with the shiit that they have dished out for us.

But yesterday I got another offer and it just suddenly hit me that there are folks out there who really want, need and appreciate my special skills. They aren't going to constantly try to convince me that I'm overpaid and of questionable value. They certainly aren't going to label me simply as a cost and be done with it.

So I made the decision - I'm through with UAL

Sorry for not sticking around for the big showdown that's coming. I do kind of regret not being able to have the satisfaction of finally calling their bluff and seeing their faces when it all comes down.

I wish all of you the best of luck and I hope you make it through. United has the best employees in the industry – too bad they don’t know it.

kcabpilot,

Your decision is understandable and I applaude you for taking care of yourself and your family!

Not to worry though, some will be here until the bitter end and cast our vote accordingly!

Take Care, and don't be a stranger,

I wish you nothing but the very best in your new endeavor and there are a lot more veteran employees at AA and other airlines that are walking away. The standard of living for all airline employees is headed in the wrong direction and people are getting fed up with it.
I'm hanging at AA until they take my defined benefit pension plan then I will join the exodus of airline employees.

Once again,I wish the very best for you and your family.

"there are a lot more veteran employees at AA and other airlines that are walking away. The standard of living for all airline employees is headed in the wrong direction and people are getting fed up with it." You got that RIGHT!

Good luck kcabpilot. Lots of us will be close behind you.

Stay in touch with the board!

buena suerte hermano... takes alot of guts to walk with your head high, i'm outta here soon as well

kcabpilot,

My hat's off to you! It takes a strong emotional detachment from the ongoing soap opera of United to be able to step back, take stock, and realize your future is best spent elsewhere. You should feel no sense of betrayal or disloyalty for having left. In the end, we all must do what's best for ourselves and our families, even if it means uprooting and moving on.

To be honest, this company's future is anything but secure. And with oil continuing to go up, it's only going to get a lot worse before it gets better. My advice to everyone is that if you can do better elsewhere, you should. The senior leadership of this company doesn't have the first clue how to turn things around. They're just 6-figure earning caretakers. And even if we're fortunate enough to emerge from Chapter 11, they won't be the ones running the show when we do.

Kab, no need to apologize. Speaking with your feet is significantly more effective than beating your chest. Have you done the research Re: pension payout? You are vested and might be able to score "some" of your money if you act quickly. I hope it's not to late. Good luck, and don't look back. while you'll always have a very warm spot for UAL (even if you won't admit it...), you'll never regret your decision.

There is never any need to apologize when you put yourself and family first. It is great that you are thinking of those closest to you and doing what is best for them. Good luck in your future endeavors and God Bless!

The whole dam industry will be outsourced soon anyway...cept CEO pay. Why pay Americans when you can hire illegals from LLCs...(just kidding)

I left another airline for a completely different industry.

You'll find you never lose interest in the travel biz.

But right now unless you work for jetBloo, AirTran, or Southwest life really sucks in this business.

"But right now unless you work for jetBloo, AirTran, or Southwest life really sucks in this business." Maybe in YOUR eyes. Most of us have NO interest in working like a slave just to fly people around for quasi FREE. I say let the whole industry shut down.
