A message was fowarded to me that there was a NWA mainlne DC-9 inside the MCI hanger bay 2 for some left engine work. There was 5 NWA AMT's originaly at the MCI station but during the stike the scab work is being done by ABX ( Airborne Express ).

Is this true?

I don't know if there's one there or not, but in its first day motions in bankruptcy court, NWA filed to immediately return a number of aircraft to lessors, including four DC9-30's: N926RC, N983US, N985US, and N986US.

If this is one of the aircraft already surrendered, then it's not on NWA's certificate anymore, and shouldn't be considered stuck work. It's the same situation as the UA777's that appeared at AFW -- the owner contracted with AA to do work that UAL hadn't performed.

Well, Well,

When the UAL Aircraft was being lease returned and at AFW, the TWU and AA were claiming AMFA allowed outsourced work to be done by AA Mechanics. Pictures of TWU members on the UAL Aircraft posted everywhere and printed in the TWU Excuse.

Must have been more smoke screen propaganda by AA and the Toy Union.

I could give a rat's a$$ about what the local was claiming. According to someone in maintenance planning at UAL, the aircraft was already off UAL's certificate at the time it arrived at AFW, so it wasn't even AMFA's work to outsource.

yes, the NWA DC-9-30 was in dock 2, ABX is under contract to provide NWA line maintenance at MCI, ABX line maintenance performed the required maintenance, ABX should be paying AA for the hanger space, provided the contract form was used, or it would be free hanger space. If ABX is willing to pay the hanger space rate, more power to them, Boxes do not complaim, passengers do, and alot of hanger personnel do, but only a few line mechanics do, because they have to do the work outside no matter what the weather condition are, and if the are luck to get hanger space, more power to them. You try changing a JFC, CSD/Generator, or Gearbox outside when its -15F, 20mph wind, and snowy, or 40F, 1/4 inch a hr rain, then these people can taik.

True, even though the aircraft were in UAL colors they belonged to AVITAS. After UAL returned them to AVITAS AA was contracted to do the heavy check before it was sent to Air India.

Even though the TWU would like everyone to believe that AA/TWU was doing UAL/AMFA work in reality AA/TWU was doing AVITAS work. The same thing could happen to AA/TWU if AA returned a leased aircraft and the lessor decided to take the aircraft some place else for the heavy check.

So the ex-IAM members allowed this "scabby" airplane in their hangar. Do the mechanics at MCI have any morals at all? Did they picket around the airplane or did they assist the ABX scabs in working on it?

You know just as well as I do the union has no power over who the company leases space to. The only thing the union can do is make things difficult. You should also know that you cannot picket on company property.

correct me if i am wrong. but the last i heard about aa and mci, is that aa signed a 25 year lease on only two bays bay 12 and 14. the other bays are under control by kansas city. so if the planes in bay 2 anybody and there brother can work on that planes and not pay aa anything for the hangar space. and one other thing, i have been laid off since last dec out of kansas city. now i am working for a place called midcoast. one bit of advice, hang on to your job for as long as possible and do what ever it takes to hold on to it. because you dont know how good you got it till you go somewhere else.

<_< Mike---- Hange in there a little longer! There are things in the works that may trigger a recall in the near futher! Wish I could say more, but can't! As for Bay 2, aa has signed a two year lease on that side of the hanger, so they do have control over it!

<_< We had one of our holiday feeds here at MCI today. And as usual,as is our custom, we invited all our old retired friends to join us. I was talking to one of the resently retired inspectors, and he made an interesting comment! It seems shortly after he retired he was contacted,by mail, asked if he was interested in going to work at a school teaching young kids to become AMT's, and get their A&P tickets! Out of curiosity, he called to get more information. It seems they couldn't train them fast enough! Northwest was hiring them fast as they could turn them out! Once he heard this,he just told them he wasn't interested! He also asked where they got his name, but couldn't get a stright answeer out of them! His next remark is one that cought my attention! He said," You Know it could be just a coinsadance, but they screwed up my address in the same way the International did!" Would they??? No-o-o!!!? 😉
