Rumor has it the company approached the union about seats coming back in house, the company wanted to work the seats on the floor, a certain local said no has to be a seperate bid area, then another local says bring the seats we will do them on the floor. My question is if this rumor is true shouldn't both locals be on the same page as far as if it needs to be a bid area or they can be worked on the floor?

It is true that the vendor is not working out well and it may come back in house. As far as bringing the seat shop back. Who knows, I figure the company can do what they want. Any how it is work to be done.

I believe according to that "thing" which was voted in the company can do as they wish!! Would be nice to add some people though, whether it be a seat shop or just more to heavy.

As for the seats coming from the vendor I understand they are having many problems with them.

First of all the local lodge does not make contract decisions.

The District is in charge of those matters.

And seats can be worked on the floor if the company chooses so.

No need to approach a local lodge.

700 is 100% correct.

If the company wants to work the seats on the floor using the existing staff there is nothing in the contract to prevent it.

If the company wants to re-create the seat shop there is also no contract language to prevent that. It is totally up to the company.

So any rumor that the company approached the union about bringing the work in-house and being told this that and the other thing is exactly what it is. Rumor.

Removing the seats in CLT and PIT, shipping them to Texas for re-work then sending them back, its no wonder it does not work out. It is totally stupid.

What union wouldn't want the work back in house, regardless of where it's performed (on the floor vs. a shop)?

Forgive my ignorance here. What is a "seat shop?" What area of the airlines are we discussing here? After 6 years of being with HP, I still don't know all the lingo those at the ATO and other areas use.

The seat shop is where the seats are overhauled and/or repaired.

The seat shop is like it sounds, a small group of mechanics who make seats serviceable so they can be reinstalled during an S check or Q check. It is only a matter of time before they come in-house. The company wants this brought back to pit and charolette but I believe it is waiting on the IBT IAM situation to be resolved. We are only talking about 35 mechanics or so between clt and pit but this is a place to start.

Pardon my ignorance.........but what does the IBT IAM situation have to do with the seat shop?
