welcome to our world
I'll still take these guys over the guys we used to have. Everything about the people we used to have was almost a daily harassment it seemed. Like I'm sure you've read it became incredibly toxic over time after 9/11. I could write a small book of stories.

YUCK...even worse.
Would you like Arpey, DellValle and the "Bricks in a backpack" guy back? Remember the $25 AIP check that they forced us to pick up because they wanted to shake our hands and have a picture taken to make everything look Hunky Dorey? The "100 Grand" bar.

No I refuse to forget those people.

You bid your vacation the year before you take it.

You can take vacation in January, and not be penalized.
But I've heard if you don't accumulate enough hours in that year for your picked vacations you'll have less time the following year.

This vacation talk confuses me. I asked this once before and my Texas education prevented me from deciphering it.
Let's say we pass a contract in August and they go with LUS way of doing vacation. We are given five weeks. If I plan a European vacation for all of Jan, will I be able to do that or will I be short on time accrued. Currently at LAA, you can take all of your vacation starting Jan.1st until your five weeks are up. Some people I know do/have done that. I personally like taking the first two weeks of Jan and go skiing. Is that possible under LUS. Go slow, remember, Texas Ex (and I don't mean University of Texas)  🙂

Think of it this way. PV's. If you took all 5 for this year than next year you were given one less vacation week to bid. 4 weeks became 3.

And vacations were always looked at forward from the time you hired on. If you hired on in January they didn't give you a week vacation that year, you got the week next year.

LUS you would accrue 2 days per month, June and October you don't accrue. You can take your vacation before you accrue and as long as you accrue every month throughout the year, you are fine.

Same as us. Between 17 to 25 years you accrue 2 per month. Over 25 years you accrue 2 1/2 per month.

Less per month for 17 and under.

For the IAM readers.

I could be wrong but I believe above wing bids vacation in two rounds. First round you bid what you will accrue based on your years of service. Second round you bid days awarded based on what you have decided to do with holidays. of course less weeks to choose from on second round.

Correct, 2.5 days for 5 weeks vacation.
Be nice to see that 5th week applied to a member who has 20 years or more.

(Hint hint)

The backpack and especially the 100 Grand bar were the biggest slaps in the face...EVER!

One thing we dont need to lose is the work associated with technology. Scanners will be replaced with gps. Gps is suppose to be a decice worn as a ring or on a cell phone and app. The device is suppose to track a bag off the plane and on the bagbelt within 10 feet of the device. Bag tags will have a chip installed. I heard that they are wanting to test this in december at various stations. I think delta has this in some capacity. So, in any contract language, we have to make the language more tech based language instead of language identified exclusively with scanning.

We have RFID chips in our bag tags, and are installing equipment on the belt loaders. The system is supposed to roll out this year, I believe.

I haven't seen that type of behavior out of Parker and co (yet) I have other complaints about them at this moment but maybe time will change that?

From inside the room. Is everybody clear on the posture of the company in negotiations? This is what we are up against folks. Thank you CB for the gut / reality check.
The position of the company Is very apparent at this point. Combining the 2 unions complicated things for the NC, and the company took advantage of that by not having any proposals. The town halls and public remarks were all show and no go. The company hurt themselves with their lack of urgency. Quite a bit . All the LAA people I know now have a clear view of Parker and his teams slow approach to negotiations. Frankly, I thought they were stupid not to do a quicker deal and hope they don't bungle other aspects of the business. It appears they have a good grip on how to operate the airline, ill give them that.I like that CB comes on here and makes his remarks with his outlook. It has been enlightening.
