<_< ----- Read in the Sunday Local section of the Kansas City Star where the "Save a Connie' Air Museum, at the Downtown Airport, has acquired an exTWA L1011. It will be flying into that Airport next Sunday.----- Looks like now I'll have something to do in my retirement. -------- That's if I get bored with the "honey due" list! 🙄

MCI,

Are you going to go watch that big beautiful bird land at MKC?
MKC is where I started working for Ozark back in 1968. Only time I worked at MCI was a
couple of times we had weather problems and would land the planes at MCI and bus the passengers to MKC. That was the good days in the airline business.

<_< ---- That was before my time here at MCI.------ But yes, I'll see it come in. It'll come in almost over my house. ----- But they say this will be a first. No L1011 has ever landed there. But if they can get Air Force One in there, the L10 shoulden't be a problem! Piloted by an exTWA pilot.------- I've got quit a bet of "C" check experiance on the Aircraft, so I may go down and volenteer a little time. One way to keep my tickets currant.

That will be cool. The only other widebody sitting in a museum that I can think of is at Boeing in SEA.

Any idea if it was stripped of seats & galleys, or is the interior still somewhat presentable?

<_< ------ Don't know.----- But the article stated that they would like to use it like an auditorium. Show movies on the history of commercial aviation.---- From the first, to the widebodys. So I'm assuming the entertainment's system is still functional. But I really don't know that either. Said Galley elevator is still functional. Galley was in the lower fuselage area on that, and all TWA L1011's.---- It'll be interesting!

I was lucky to be chosen for the roll out of the first TWA L-1011. We flew into Palmdale for the photo shoot. One of the highlights of my career. I loved that plane and enjoyed many years as a FSM(Purser) on the domestic routes.

<_< ------ Was that before, or after, they had Engines to put on them? There was a whole row of new L1011's, in TWA colors, sitting on Lockeeds ramp in Palmdale without engines. ------ That's when Rolls had their problems with the RB211 first stag fan blades and almost went under.

I love the L-1011 it suchs a amazing plane. I love the lower galley deck, all widebodies should still have them but I guess cargo wins, and the 5 lavs at the back of the plane. I was reading up on this and this plane was supposed to fly for some airline and it never worked out. So they got the price down and now it belongs to the museum. The inside of the plane still has seats, working video, and some other TWA parts. They will from what I heard be painting it in the old white body, red double lines, and red tail. I wish it was in the last gold globe colors. That was the best aircraft paint job every and there will never be another one better then that. I wish I was able to fly in and see it and take the tour, last time I was on a L-1011 was when I was kid. I flew it out from either JFK or LGA to either MIA or FLL. I still remember the blue water in the LAV. Great times! Also Boeing is not the only one to have a wide body in a museum, Delta has a 767-200 in the ATL museum.

Anyone know the reg number of this bird? It would be a nice book-end if it was N31029...the only 1011 painted in the new (last) TWA color scheme...and if IIRC it was in the International config with just 3 rows of F.

Engines were on, because we wanted to do the same type of picture as the 747 (sitting in the engine) but we were told, "been there, done that". While we were there a hangar door opened up and a huge plane rolled out and took off. It was the then very secret "blackbird".

<_< ----- That's one thing about TWA colors. NO DECALS! Excuse me! One, the American Flag on the vertical.

Regarding the 1011 elevator, I once assigned a crew member to check the lower galley. The guy uses the elevator down, on the way up the elevator(s) wouldn't lift his 350 lbs. frame. So being TWA and their obsession with on-time the Ramp manager decides to push the A/C off the gate on-time, then we pulled the guy off using a belt loader to the C-belly.

1011, Great ride, we're happy for your return home.

<_< ------ Back in the "good ol' days on graveyard, we had a Supervisor who liked to prowl around trying to catch people sleeping. But we cured him of that! --------- One night he went down the elevator to check the galley on one of our Aircraft. We saw him, and when he was coming up, pulled the power when he was half why up, and walked off the plane tell dawn!-------- Boy! was he pissed!!!! Never did find out who did it!!! ------- 🙄
