I understand that for many bass-fishing residents of Tulsa (with big new trucks and big new truck payments), the calculations can be very difficult; a look at the parking lots confirms that many people have fallen prey to the siren song of Ford, GM and Dodge and bought hug trucks with huge engines that keep them indebted to the man.

Excuse me but I am in Tulsa and I am neither a bass fisherman or owner of a big new truck. I do remember Robert Crandall claiming that fuel was a minute cost of doing business when compared to everything else when the fuel price was low, only to complain how much of a burden it was when the price went up a few cents a gallon. But you people in management think that all of us in the hangars and shops are uneducated and can be manipulated by lies printed in the paper and coming from the mouths of management. The truth of the matter is AA has always cried broke when it came time to pay us only to hand out huge raises and bonuses to the people responsible for the mess the airline is in. There have been so many lies told by management that we don't know what to believe anymore. Add that to our "union" that sold us out to maintain their head count and you get the double whammy. For your information many mechs at TULE have to work second jobs now to make ends meet. Many of those "Big Trucks" are used to bring in extra money to try to offset the drastic reduction in pay that only the union members endured. This is all about management keeping their collective thumb on the workers. The idiots in management in TULE actually think that if the overhaul base was shut down, they would still have jobs. Incidently, I drive a small American made pickup that is over ten years old. I wish I could afford a better one, but we lost $500 a month eight years ago (some AMTs lost even more) so the morons running the company and their cronies could steal bonuses and raises. Oh... Were you one of the lucky ones to get to see the pictures of the $1.5 Million condo in Hawaii that a certain director purchased with his bonus money right after we took pay and benefit cuts??? I think it's safe to say that, given the opportunity to run the airline, I could have lost over $10 Billion over the last eight years just like your pal Arpey has done and continues to do. Does that make me uniquely qualified to run an airline??? Now here's some figures to put in your calculator.... $100K plus (and counting) taken from every AMT at AA. $500 Million in profits from third party work at the TULE base alone. Raises and continued bonuses for management dispite the loss of over $10 Billion due to really stupid moves such as buying TWA. Same management making same stupid moves equals same results. If management is rewarded for their inept performance with bonuses and raises, how it is out of line for the people who actually did sacrifice for the good of the company to ask for a raise and the restoration of basic benefits? By the way, I am assuming you are a member of management if you are a union member then you need to give back your union card and take a management job.
