Labor reaction to aircraft order

I understand that for many bass-fishing residents of Tulsa (with big new trucks and big new truck payments), the calculations can be very difficult; a look at the parking lots confirms that many people have fallen prey to the siren song of Ford, GM and Dodge and bought hug trucks with huge engines that keep them indebted to the man.

Excuse me but I am in Tulsa and I am neither a bass fisherman or owner of a big new truck. I do remember Robert Crandall claiming that fuel was a minute cost of doing business when compared to everything else when the fuel price was low, only to complain how much of a burden it was when the price went up a few cents a gallon. But you people in management think that all of us in the hangars and shops are uneducated and can be manipulated by lies printed in the paper and coming from the mouths of management. The truth of the matter is AA has always cried broke when it came time to pay us only to hand out huge raises and bonuses to the people responsible for the mess the airline is in. There have been so many lies told by management that we don't know what to believe anymore. Add that to our "union" that sold us out to maintain their head count and you get the double whammy. For your information many mechs at TULE have to work second jobs now to make ends meet. Many of those "Big Trucks" are used to bring in extra money to try to offset the drastic reduction in pay that only the union members endured. This is all about management keeping their collective thumb on the workers. The idiots in management in TULE actually think that if the overhaul base was shut down, they would still have jobs. Incidently, I drive a small American made pickup that is over ten years old. I wish I could afford a better one, but we lost $500 a month eight years ago (some AMTs lost even more) so the morons running the company and their cronies could steal bonuses and raises. Oh... Were you one of the lucky ones to get to see the pictures of the $1.5 Million condo in Hawaii that a certain director purchased with his bonus money right after we took pay and benefit cuts??? I think it's safe to say that, given the opportunity to run the airline, I could have lost over $10 Billion over the last eight years just like your pal Arpey has done and continues to do. Does that make me uniquely qualified to run an airline??? Now here's some figures to put in your calculator.... $100K plus (and counting) taken from every AMT at AA. $500 Million in profits from third party work at the TULE base alone. Raises and continued bonuses for management dispite the loss of over $10 Billion due to really stupid moves such as buying TWA. Same management making same stupid moves equals same results. If management is rewarded for their inept performance with bonuses and raises, how it is out of line for the people who actually did sacrifice for the good of the company to ask for a raise and the restoration of basic benefits? By the way, I am assuming you are a member of management if you are a union member then you need to give back your union card and take a management job.

Hey Old Guy, It's not even worth arguing with some of the idiots on this forum. These goofs will never understand the deep rooted anger we have towards management and the Grand Pubba's of the TWU INTL. Most of the people arguing against the union members on this forum will never understand the underhanded tactics used by this company and union to rape the front line employees of this company. To me it doesn't matter how people spin it......bottom line is management and union are working behind the scenes to manipulate and bamboozle the membership through deceit and lies. I'm done recognizing most of the goofs on this forum......it's getting old and frankly it's not helping our cause. I know the company and INTL have paid idiots on this forum to antagonize the members and I'm just sick and tired of listening to their BS!

Chuck Schalk is right....FULL RETRO TO 2008 + 4% (2009) + 4% (2010) + 4% (2011) minimum + 4% going forward per year (minimum) or NO VOTE!!!! Take your pick AA & TWU INTL.

Call me whatever you want........I don't give a rat's ass!!!!

Goodbye Airline Forum!!!! It's been fun!

The two situations are hardly comparable. Northwest was crowing about its paid-for DC-9s when fuel was a mere $0.60/gal, not fuel at $3.00/gal, five times the price.

The new 738s currently being delivered are saving AA enough money on fuel to make their lease payments. Back in the mid-1990s (when NW was crowing), the fuel savings could not have made the payments on new planes. With fuel five times more expensive now (and interest rates at historic lows), new planes can pay for themselves.

If fuel were $0.60/gal again, then AA would not be pulling out the stops to replace its fuel hogs.

If gasoline hits $25/gal, then buying a new fuel efficient car will be a wise move by you and everyone else. Jet fuel at $3.00/gal makes new fuel efficient planes a good deal. If fuel goes higher (and stays higher), then Arpey and Horton will be lauded as visionaries. If fuel drops to $1.00/gal and stays there, Arpey and Horton will be the goats.

When fuel is cheap, keep driving (or flying) old gas hogs, as the fuel savings will never pay for a new vehicle. At high fuel prices, revisit the numbers.

Well FWAAA, According to this LA Times article http://articles.latimes.com/2005/feb/21/business/fi-planes21 the date this article of the NWA DC9 crowing was 2005. Then according to this 2011 ATW article http://atwonline.com/aircraft-engines-components/news/delta-retire-more-100-dc-9s-crjs-saab-turboprops-0203, Delta is finally retiring them, as of 2011, the decision might have been made in 1995, but why would they keep flying them until 2012? Now, by no means am I going to give any of the former NWA management any credit, maybe for being horrible, nasty fools. However, there must be something as to why they keep flying those thirsty and loud but very tough DC9's in the air until recently. Alas, NWA is no more, so I guess the proof of the NWA management failures is all too apparent. Delta is going to do so much better, I can just tell.

Delta also stated they are looking at used MD90's, because they are cheaper than new 737s? Couldn't be. They must not have the credit AA has because the AA employees saved AA from the big BK trip. "Commenting on the airline's interest in acquiring MD-90s in the aftermarket he said "We can acquire a used MD-90, fully equipped with all maintenance checks done for roughly $10 million all in with 160 seats," making it a good replacement for the MD-88."

In addition, I am not in Tulsa, I don't have a big diesel truck (mine is a paid for small V8 1/2 ton GM with 175k and going on 13 years old, runs good because I took care of it) so my ties to the man are far over, other than my modest house. As much as the AA Credit Union wishes I would buy a new set of wheels, (they must be hurting with all the advertisements I get) that isn't gonna happen anytime soon with more twu concessions on the way. Don't have a boat, and I don't bass fish either. So your condescending assumptions on my part are a swing and miss. Nice try though.

I don't think that buying tens of billions of new aircraft is a great idea when your supposed to be broke, apparently losing 18 billion in the last 10 years is a good business plan for buying new aircraft. Makes sense.

I guess we'll be seeing if Boeing and Scare Bus get their ROI and lease payments in the near future with all the fuel savings of those new aircraft.

I guess if you tell lies for a living, it's gotta be the truth sooner or later.

Hackman, I do not care what you drive 🙄 , but didn't you start out in Tulsa? Maybe in JT-8?

You're Right Strikeforce. It's not worth it, but it feels good to vent sometimes. You've heard you can't negotiate with a terrorist? Well you can't talk about fairness with morally bankrupt management types. Happy Trails. I'll miss your posts.

Hey Buck, yep, I bailed outta T-town in 1991. Can't believe it's been almost 20 years, or that the twu is still misrepresenting us.

Just received a postcard from AA, " We're making bold moves, Largest aircraft order in aviation history."

The last paragraph reads..

"Our success starts with each of our loyal and dedicated employees who are determined to deliver every day. And, it's you who will position us to compete and win."

Holy sh-t they are out of touch!! I feel like a dog that just pinched a loaf on the living room carpet, and my owner just rubbed my nose in it!
