My views are conservative and libertarian in some areas,a nd very liberal in others
Very generally, socially liberal, and libertarian to conservative in governance, with a huge dose of pragmatism and practicality.
My voting record is nearly entirely Republican. Primarily because like so many others, I sooo _wanted_ to believe their promises of fiscal responsibility and small uninteusive government. I wanted to believe that if they delivered in those areas then that maybe the influence of the religious right would not be too harmful to the peoples' rights and freedoms.
I was wrong, and they didn't just fail - they flat lied. They have no intention of delivering on the warm and fuzzy "conservative" promise they sell. That is a cynical and bald-faced lie intended to get the good working people of this country and the truly patriotic to sell their birthright for the enrichment of the GOP's benefactors.
Then along came W and his many colossal failures and blatant deception of the American public.
And a reasonable effort at learning something about the real history of our country and government and its progression and continual expansion. I dropped all but accidental viewing of tv news - especially the politically motivated and agenda-driven, and started reading, a lot of reading, from a lot of differing viewpoints.
That was the last straw for hoping or believing the "conservative" and "non-intrusive" governance lie.
So I support the 2nd, the 4th, individuals' rights and freedoms, and reason and logic over ideology or the need to "identify" with an ideology or group or party or anything else merely in order to "belong" or "feel good".
That line of thinking makes it very clear who the drones repeating the Ailes-inspired outrage of the day talking points are
