What's new

line maint station(s) reopening

And also adding a stores person in SAV. Does 7 mainline flights a day really justify this?

I was surprised to see that there was MTX there in the first place. Is there specifc work that is done in SAV, or another reason to have it staffed? Don't get me wrong-I'm all for staffing places, I'm just curious why they're there...

Official?
Is there a memo out?

All the postions/cities mentioned are currently on eBid. Not sure how "official" that would be, but...

SAV and CHS are small out stations. From Lee Gossett, head of Line MTC, they are cheap to run and give us good touch time on the airplanes. I believe each station does an A check every night. I think they only staff on midights with one lead and 3-4, maybe 5 mechanics per night. They are warm weather so the check can always been done at the gate and I bet the rent is cheap. There also is only one manager for both stations.

I've been expecting them to open both SAN and PHX. Both have a large amout of down time for aircraft routing purposes. I think SAN has been staffed on a limited basis since they closed it by some SAN mechanics that were furloughed to SLC. I know they have been putting off opening "new" stations until a year after the merger. Gossett told us he wanted to wait until the routings settled out. I would think there may be more coming after these get staffed. They are also Line Mtc openings in ATL posted on Ebid. I would suspect there will be some new hires for some of these outstation openings and to back fill the ATL Line transfers. Some will come from the ASM ranks that upgrade to Mechanic.

Add memphis to the list.

Sounds exactly like IAH and DFW at NWA. We had 5 RON A-319's at IAH. No manager, good weather, and cheap gate fees.

We knocked out A-Checks and numerous MEL's on a nightly basis with one lead and a crew of 4 or 5. Of course, that did not stop the wholesale outsource of it all to Swissport.

That was done by a guy named Richard Anderson. Where is that guy now anyway?
