Looks like NWA is now hiring Managers at all the stations that used to have line mx. One of these used to be my job as a Crew Chief. Now they will be called managers. No doubt they will be overseeing the swissport or (insert contractor name here) scabs. <_<

Link is here.

Very interesting...one of the positions is in MKE.

I was in MKE before the strike. I've often wondered what happened to the manager that they already had there, and the 1982 SCAB (Paul Janssen) that jumped into mgmt. there 1 month before our strike. Are they still there, and this position is meant to supplement them? Or is this position being offered with the intent of replacing one/both of them with a lower paid person?

Anyway, I bet the scab mechanics at NW are falling all over themselves submitting their resumes to HR for these management positions...

I guess they gave up on the policy of conscripting engineers and the like into mgmt. like they did in the early days of the strike?

Pre-strike, the PDX AMT's were managed by SEA, and seem to do just fine...sounds like a big decline in quality from Jett Care and the like...

By the way, I had the "pleasure" of meeting Andy Roberts on Weds. When asked about all of the outsourcing, he replied, "contrary to popular belief, these stations are performing much better than anyone thinks."

So clearly, the American media and flight crews are conspiring to spread lies.... 🙄 🙄 🙄

FWIW, he spent most of his time checking out his Blackberry...very little interaction with the station personnel (which kind of misses the point of a station visit, right?).

Nope, Kev. Moved to CVG for my new job with Comair last December. Haven't had much rain down here lately - plus the temps have been in the 90's for 3+ weeks... 😎

Back to the topic...

I wonder if PTO has thought of applying for one of those mgmt. positions. Remember how he would always complain about how things should be run while he was scabbing at NW? Well, here's a chance for him to make a difference at NW!

Glad to hear you're where it's dry! You'd need a life jacket and canoe if you were still in Badger country.

As for PTO running a station? God, I hope not, but I imagine he'll be on here soon telling us why he'd be perfect for the job...

Good catch on the "body language" Kev. Did anyone happen to notice that also on the Today show interview? Was watching the CAL CEO with Matt Laur CAL, relaxed vs. Dougie on the edge of his seat.

Why...it requires too much thinking... his poor brain might explode.

My station did not have a manager (he was in another city). The Leads ran the station and did most of everything listed in the job description that they now list as manager.

I wonder if NWA is going to hire a manager and then recall back to those stations at the new scab pay rate?

I am glad I took the option of quitting. I know a few who would go back to finish a year or two to retire.

If things are going so well, according to Andy Roberts, why mess with success?

A manager here, a manager there, isn't this overkill? I heard this through the coconut telegraph at ROC-you know telephone, telegraph, tell a counter person, read your blog and just have to ask...why??. Meseba took over the jobs at NW in ROC last year. Most of my friends at NW quit because the pay went to less than $10 hr. (I make more than that serving coffee at the airport and don't have to throw bags in 20 degree weather). I understand that Meseba is owned by NW and presume they did this to help them out of bankruptcy. They have a manager and about 20 employees. After NW came out of bankruptcy, NW hired an additional manager and an assistant manager. Wouln't they have been better off raising the wages of the workers instead of having 3 managers for 20 employees? Also, its rumored that the guy they hired used to be a Fed ex or UPS driver and knows zip about airlines. TSA just caught him boarding a plane last week without going through security (isnt that illegal?). I hope at least they got him cheap.

Don't forget that the work rules were changed when the new contract was enforced..So the way that I look at it, you have an on-call person to take care of the little things like mel's and such. I saw an e-mail early in the strike from one of the maint vp's that the managers did quite a lot of wrenching at the start of the strike...and it was all planned....also heard that they are going the contracting way to hire techs in dtw to do checks on dc-9's and 757...this is thru aeortek and us technical....20 to start in dtw with msp to follow...

Q: Why would anyone with even a minimal amount of self esteem want to seek employment at NW?

Anytime technical skills are a vital link to providing service it's best to administrate quality assurance from in house. The process of using a company liason in conjunction with a vendor cannot be a good process at this level of support.

I'm suggesting that when lives are at stake (and on flights they are) quality maintainence should be the first priority.

No doubt, the "manager's" job at these line stations will be to put ink to paper when even the scab contractors won't sign something off.
