News Release: Local 2000 Unimpressed By NWA Presentation
It would not be appropriate or productive to schedule additional meetings.
March 11, 2003
To the Members of Teamsters Local 2000,
On Tuesday, March 11th the leadership of Teamsters Local 2000 attended a presentation conducted by Northwest Airlines regarding the state of today''s airline industry. This was the first of three meetings Northwest Airlines has asked all of the Unions to attend.
Unfortunately, we did not learn anything new during this presentation that hasn''t already been printed in a number of newspapers. What''s more, there was no indication that Northwest Airlines has changed its position with regard to ''permanent labor cost restructuring.''
Because our members have already made extraordinary sacrifices; and because we remain strongly opposed to any type of ''permanent'' restructuring, we do not think it would be appropriate or productive for us to attend any more of these presentations.
As stated in our February 7th letter to you, Local 2000 is very sensitive to the challenges facing our industry and we remain committed to the success of Northwest Airlines and its employees.
In Unity,
The Trustees and Base Representatives of Teamsters Local 2000

This why NWA Flights Attendants want Teamsters off the property!!

However, most NWA FAs are well aware of how the IBT and Local 2000 operate - afterall, you(Trustee Molly Rielly) just found out today that PFAA has filed for a vote. So, we can all breath easy for at least 60 days .... we KNOW that you and the IBT wouldn't move into NWA's camp until AFTER the election results are final!

Should the IBT win the election, I'll bet my life that you will be calling NWA to set up the first meeting offering to do whatever is necessary to save the airline .... even if that means selling every NWA FA down the river.

Or you could do what you are SO GOOD at - don't even bother to bring a concessionary package to a vote - just sign a side letter (behind closed doors).

PLEASE don't let the IBT's and Mollie's rhetoric fool you over the next couple of months. The senior FAs have witnessed past elections where the IBT promised the moon, and as soon as they were certified the winner, it was back to "business as usual".

Educate yourselves on the issues, ask fellow FAs about PAST ELECTIONS (IBT videotapes, scare tactics, empty promises, etc.) .... become informed BEFORE you cast your vote!!

This is the MOST IMPORTANT election vote that the NWA FAs have ever faced. Make sure that you take the time to exercise your democratic right by VOTING!!
