21 OCT 2007 CRJ-700 takes off with open cargo door: loses bags after takeoff from MDW
A Delta Connection flight (ASQ718 to Atlanta) returned to Chicago-Midway because the cabin failed to pressurize. It appeared that a cargo door had not been closed properly. Two bags fell from the cargo hold. An employee of the Belt Railway Company found one bag in a rail yard nearly a mile from the airport.

Umm, I'm no pilot but I have worked at the airport and had planes leave the gate taxi a bit and return stating that they could not pressurize and had to call for mntc. So is it procedure to pressurize the AC and verify this as part of a pre-flight checklist?
Should the pilots have

A- seen a light indicating the baggage dor was not closed properly?
B- Is is procedure to pressurize before you take off? Then why have I encountered planes taxi back before taking off.

I am imagining that the door was closed (meaning pulled down) but not latched or secured and it opened in flight otherwise wouldn't other aircraft or the tower radio the plane if it were wide open? Pluss I cannot imagine a ramper letting a plane go with the door wide open.

Anyway, I'd love to hear more details about this.

Me too...Flaps falling off...now baggage...sheesh are we sure US Airways did not think of this 😉

Don't claim to be familar with the CRJ-700 but would think they would have a "door light" on in the cockpit telling them a cargo door was open. Some one feel free to correct if that's not the case.

There is a status page on the eicas secondary page...shows all the doors, there may even be a aural warning..not sure about that though..Ive only worked on the crj-100/200
