M&E reductions announced

Word around Tulsa is that both AFW and MCI are to be gone.

Not that I am subscribing to the rumor mill press, but If you think about it.....1300 maintenance personnel are getting laid off......WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM?

I think that at least one overhaul base will be drastically effective....Maybe AFW, Maybe MCI........

MCI transplant, Nope never been to mcie. I flew thru once, many moons ago, on my way to mcrd san diego. If they move remaining work to dwh its no big deal, dwh is on the east side of dfw. The point here is it makes zero sense to us for the company to move this work. We are a 10 minute flight from dfw. Why spread our aircraft and facilities out more than they are? Lets look at the dwh scenerio. 767 work and most shops move to dwh. We would still have taesl, the structures building, warehouse and fuel farm at afw. 777,757,737,md-80 work in tul. Some 767 and mod work at mci. Now would it not make sense to utilize afw, dwh, dfw to handle as much work as real estate would allow? Would it not make sense to move the mci work to one central location, afw, dwh, dfw? Why fly even more empty airplanes 1+ hours north When you have the resource in your backyard? Finally, you guys came on board 7 years ago. Some of us have been here a lot longer than that. Its great that AA came riding to your rescue but I honestly don`t get how its ok to jettison your own family for a johnny come lately. I`ll keep my job, no worries there. If they move this operation to dwh, fine I`ll just turn right in the morning instead of left. I started in tulsa and have no problem going back if they move it all there, I`ll follow.Later.

I can`t argue with that. Approx 2000 here at afw. What does mcie have? Maybe 1000? 😛

I guess we'll be finding out soon..

The problem with closing MCI, which I don't think they will, is because of the "deal" they made with the city maintaining a certain employment number when AA bought TWA..
If they were to pull out of MCI, AA would have an enormous price to bay with respect to the EPA cleanup there.

THE WORD IS THE 777 @ AFW IS GONE!!! HERE COMES THE #### $ANDWICH!!!! GET READY DFW.....HERE IT COMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THX TWU!!!!!!!!! AFW IS CLOSING!!!!

FURP!
Are you drunk, carnak?

<_< ------dvl, I'm going to be honest with you. First and foremost, is the amount of money AA is giving Mr. Ross per year in lease payments. (a lot!) Second, from what I hear is AA's not getting any work out of you people. ( may, or may not, be true!) Third your reputation for being a bunch of radicals. (again, may, or may not, be true!) But that TWU vice president of yours, and his Article 32 letter, didn't help you guys! Forth, maybe AA has someone in the wings waiting to give AA a deal to take over your lease? ---- Now let's talk about MCI. --------MCI is almost twice the size of AFW, But only has about a total of Approx. 800 people. Older? Yes, but we've come a long way from what it was when TWA was here. and the renovation continues. Their still working on the roof, and as of yesterday, are replacing five massive hanger ceiling heating units with new. Floors are still being painted, and some of our old shop areas are being redone as I'm writing. Yes, this is all being done with City money. Another plus! But if they're just going to shut this place down, why bother? And the biggest thing is their getting all the space for almost nothing!--------And whatever they bring in here, it gets done!!!------- Oh, I feel we'll loose some people, but I'd really be surprised if they shut us down! And as for the Aircraft (AA) they bring in here to be worked, they fly it in as a revenue flight. Out the same way.

Don't think that because few bucks is being spent on the hangar that nothing bad can happen. It was about 20 years ago that AA spent HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars building hubs in BNA and RDU....Then a few years later pulled out of those two hubs leaving a few people..

Now, personally, I don't think MCI will be shut down,,,AA can use MCI as a threat to force the TULSA crowd into accepting a company contract.

JMHO,

AA is going to make decisions not unlike what UA did. Remember it is what the ‘company’ wants and unions can only mitigate what the ‘company’ will do!

Hope you all stay strong and do not beat each other up over ‘company’ decisions like the UA guys do over the closing of the IMC.

March 20, 2003
UAL informs 1,100 mechanics at the Indianapolis Maintenance Center that they will be placed on "temporary unpaid leave" effective March 24. The company cites a "force majuere" contract clause due to the war in Iraq. This allows the company to avoid paying traditional furlough benefits including severance pay, bumping rights, and moving expenses.

There are still some ‘very’ bitter mechanics blaming each other over this ‘company’ decision.

Regardless, wish the best for you ‘all’ here!

Take Care,

That was AA pissing away AA money, in this situation it's AA pissing away someone elses money.

I do think the money from the cities is a big deal in deciding who stays or goes. Don't forget that the City of Fort Worth refused to give AA some incentives or aid for AFW in 2003, when Tulsa and KC were throwing them money. The same situation is going on today with DWH, which is located on an airport that is literally sucking billions of dollars out of the ground in natural gas. You can add the fact that DWH is located within the City of Irving which is about to lose a huge tenant in the Cowboys, so I wouldn't be surprised to see AA get a long-term deal on DWH that might be even better than the TULE or MCI deals.

I think by taking the 777 to Tulsa is the beginning of the end for AFW. We have to hope that they decide to move the shops and the 767's to DWH hangar and us getting relocated there. I was involved in the last RIF and ended up in ORD for 2 years. I hope that the worst this time around is me in DFW. I can only dream, because control of this situation I don't have any.

July 25th lighting struck twice. I was on the most productive line at AA the 757 light c check at AFW. And that big sucking sound from the north, no offense guys, Tulsa took it. Just like that. Now fast forward 10 years and once again a very productive on-time dock Bay 4 " Home of the 777" gets wind it too has been affected by the sucking sound from the north. Lesson here...listen up MCI no matter how great management tells you your doing it can all be gone in a drop of a hat. Sounds like AFW has been chosen to once again bail out the yield problems with the fleet. I say no problem as we have always been in the past, we are up for the challenge.

<_< ------ Oh Don't take me wrong! In these times anything can happen, including shutting down MCI. After all if fuel keep going up, this won't be the only RIF!!!------ If I sound a little complacent it's because I have the luxury to able to say I can retire anytime now. With, or without AA! Preferably with! But time will tell!!!
