The company has stated they will be granting VBR's (variable bridge to retirement) to TWU members in NY (JFK,LGA, EWR). There are planned layoffs at JFK due to the A300 B check going bye-bye in July. Yesterday another one was ferried out to TUL for the return to lessor prep work.

They should offer a system wide package to get out some senior mechs and hire in some new blood that still thinks aviation is exciting no matter what the pay

Yep, and if AA would offer up an employment seminar with those TUL BBQ and Chicken Sandwiches I bet most would come to work at a reduced pay rate. Those of us with 25 years have been doing so for over 6 years.

Offer up a free TWU slogan T-Shirt and/or some free TWU Tickets to the local sporting events and the new employee may even pay AA to work there and forego any benefits.

I noticed a recent TWU Loca 514 Financial Statement offered up that the TWU spent $40,000.00 on Tulsa Talons Tickets and Big Splash, but only $10,000.00 on Negotiations.

Now that's representation for ya, $4 to every $1 spent on entertainment instead of obtaining a decent labor agreement.

Let's hope the VBRs are enough for the guys in the Northeast. Wasn't the case with MCI last time, but we can hope as few jobs are lost involuntarily as possible. It's one of the few good things TWU has managed to work out with the company.

Good Thing! :bleh: $12,500 before taxes and you're outta here! In the old days these guys got a 5 and 5 to get out. AA can make up the cost it took in a guy retiring with the VBR in about 3 months with a new hire. Hell they give $12,500 to a protected member to move to a different station! AA is not doing anyone any favors by offering the VBR's. It just makes good business sense.

The VBR is actually the $12,500 + 13 weeks severance pay.
This is based on the assumption that someone is taking the layoff for a junior person.

<_< ---- PLus unemployement! Let's get it right people! ------ You people need a worn out old AMT down there in Tulsa? 🙄

I don't think anyone would be foolish enough to think that AA HQ is going to offer something that doesn't benefit the bottom line.

I think the point is that this is an instance where both the company's bottom line and some near-to-retirement employees can benefit. It's not always win-lose.
