Merger called final chance

"If US Airways can't forge a deal to merge with America West Airlines, bankrupt US Airways will find it very hard to keep operating indefinitely, analysts said Monday."

Merger rumors flying in Ariz.

"TEMPE, Ariz. -- In the hometown of America West Airlines, the temperature is 100 degrees, and heated questions are mounting about a possible partnership with East Coast carrier US Airways."

Consumers getting madder by the month

"US Airways, which has laid off thousands of workers in Western Pennsylvania and cut routes as it struggles to survive, saw its rating fall 9 percent to 57, the biggest drop-off and the lowest level of the industry's seven largest airlines. By comparison, Southwest Airlines, which just started flying out of Pittsburgh International Airport, had a 1 percent increase in its customer satisfaction rating and an overall rating of 74, the industry's highest and well above the average score of 66."

AmWest to stay mum at meeting

"America West shareholders will have one thing on their minds at the airline's annual meeting in Tempe today, and America West CEO Doug Parker will likely have one answer: no comment."

we've heard that he will make the announcement at the meeting. One thing though is being said. Doug Parker's integerity is on the line. I truly believe that he will do what is best for HP AND the employees. From what I've seen him and at least one VP are heads above anyone else in the business. Whatever happens I think his decision will be the right one for HIS employees.
