Merger Partner - ALL US Merger Talk Here

Let me consult my magic 8 ball and just make a random guess.

AA and FL approach US to buy it's assets. The Shuttle routes go to AA with PHL and CLT and FL buys the remaining slots and gates in LGA/DCA and takes the LAS and PHX hubs.

That should be about as accurate as any other guess.

Pilots at DL and NW to get equity stake in new company. Article below makes comparisons to the US-HP merger.

When are pilots going to realize that equity in any airline is a hollow promise? Airline management knows how to play on the average pilot's greed; knowing all along they can ch. 11 the whole promise at will. It is even more amazing given the fact that DAL and NWA have both been through the bankruptcy process.

Doug Parker thinks CO - UA is a bad deal.

"That scenario seems less likely than popular perception," US Chairman and CEO Doug Parker recently argued. "Delta and Northwest getting together makes lots of sense [based on their route networks], but taking Continental out of the [SkyTeam] Alliance doesn't make sense. . .There's more behind all these transactions than just looking at two route maps. It's a lot more complicated than that."

DL, NWA and CO are all SkyTeam members and a merged DL-NWA obviously would be a SkyTeam carrier. But presumably UA is not leaving the Star Alliance, of which it is a founding member, and therefore CO's Newark and Houston hubs would become part of Star under the DL-NWA/CO-UA consolidation scenario. "Why would you go through all the trouble [of a merger] to lose [Newark and Houston] from the alliance?" asks Parker, wondering aloud whether non-US SkyTeam members would be ready to embrace a merger that could cost them CO's network.

Well, WN's ceo is on record as saying they were definately going to look at possibilities that make sence for them. I don't see a straight merger as being realistic, but maybe some sort of alliance or partnership may be in the works. This could explain why all he cutbacks US has done without too much concern for any long term negative affects. Maybe we will do away with 1st class altogether in a hook up with WN.

Rumor does have it all domestic first class is going to be removed.

SWA would sure reap a lot of gates/slots etc.

How many of us would be going along w/ those gates/slots?

Would we be able to "interview" for our positions (after your file has been reviewed)?

It seems to me they would be happy to take what they want and leave the rest hanging.

This is when the "be careful what you wish for" stuff comes into play. Maybe they have been talking to AA, down the street from them, figuring out which parts they want to keep(757s, The Shuttle, etc).

They could eliminate a lot of competition, both east and west (ala US/DL) , raise fares and put an end to the U's misery. They need to put those new planes to use somewhere.

Personally, I think (hope) it was a misprint but it shows the unbelievable stuff printed in newspapers.

Now we can all go to the SWA board and welcome them and their Ma & Pa Kettles to the new US Air family!

From the SWA board:
...There is no talk of LCC in most of the conversation's except that they are the lonley bridesmaid looking for a dance parnter. Obviously DUI Dougie wants to run an airline, but he's demonstrated a total lack of control in merging the barbell. So, does WN finally get to see America West and UsAir finally put out of their misery and get it pieced meal out?

From the AA board:
Lot of rumors floating today about Southwest and AA being in behind the scenes talks about a possible ride together if merger mania breaks out and leaves them in the dust.

I wonder how that would work out anyway?

I can't believe I'm quoting posters on these boards as my references.

Quote from David Siegal?" Southwest is coming to kill you"(or something to that effect).

NWA-Delta pilot clash blocking merger

Delta pilots also are represented by ALPA. Delta's pilot group is larger, with about 7,000 pilots. The Northwest group is roughly 5,000 pilots. About 3,000 Delta pilots would go to the bottom third of the merged seniority list if the Northwest delegation has its way, the unnamed news source said.

The news source said that the Delta and Northwest pilots worked together constructively in recent weeks to negotiate a merged labor contract, which provides the 30 percent-plus pay raises for Northwest pilots over the four-year life of the contract. Compared to the existing contracts, there is an additional $2 billion in compensation in the proposed deal for the Northwest and Delta pilots, the news source said.

Southwest needs to merge with nobody. The just simply open a route and own whoever else is in the lead there. They are parasites. They are the AIDS virus... Nay.... the Super-AIDS virus......

Rumor does have it all domestic first class is going to be removed.
Where are you hearing that???

We have to have first class for the Star Aliance...

won't happen.... we have had first class service since when????? 1908 The old PI days.... first is here to stay

sorry to bust your bubble....

Actually, from what I have heard, you DON'T need to have First Class to be in Star.

I believe there are a couple of carriers who don't.

That said, they can't do it right so why not? They just better increase pitch cabin wide though. It would align them better with their new owner SWA ...

Like I said before--stranger things have happened.
