So who will complete a full merger first, US Airways or Delta? Discuss!

While I'm sure behind the scenes the DL/NW merger is no picnic they sure do appear to have it together. The merger between HP and US could have been something great. The team at US though counted on going cheap as talent to make US a success. As we see they have ticked off their VFF's and their employees are very unhappy. My bets are on Delta 100%. Speaking of DL, go to jetphotos or airliners.net and click on cabin views. THEN look up ours. They know how to cater to their first class. So embarrassing. 🙄

"As the Air Turns....." What a soap opera. Who knows maybe there will be another merger?????? DL-NW will in my eyes have their problems but all mergers are hard. Delta may offer 2100 early outs.... or as they are called today....the ben-dovers. As for AWA-USA...I don't see it working AT ALL. Maybe US Airways will sell off part of the company.....because it seems the children can't play nice together. What a book that would make....you know: A story about a group of workers that for years made less than everyone else in their industry.....flew mostly at night and stayed mostly in the trash hotels. Then there was a marriage and they (the underpaid) became the stepchild overnight.....now why this happened is not clear for they (the underpaid) worked for the company that was not in the bank trash can. But life is strange.....like...when the other kids got a raise and meals...the stepchild got none....and the angels (also known as the union) who are in place to help them just turned their back. How sad....and as for the skydrivers that feel it is really bad.... to lose some of their pension....well....boohoo. At least you have a pension to lose something from. You know this story is really about what is wrong with people today....they go to church on Sat or Sun.....but for the rest of the week.....IT'S ALL ABOUT THEM. 😳 Well keep an eye out for the book.....I have names and I am going to use them.... 😛h34r: LOL

US had their main focus of the merger as being as cheap as possible. They didn't want to give anyone a raise at all, but they wanted to throw everyone under a contract that was forced onto workers in bankruptcy.
Delta's sole goal is the make sure that the all the employees remain non-union and they are doing everything in their power to make sure that the whole airline stays non-union. The NW/DL merger won't be pretty even if it is a shorter time to complere than that US merger.

The pilots agreed to a pay increase and agreed to arbitrate their seniority. It sucks because instead of a strict seniorty like NW pilots wanted, seniority is based on the type of A/C that you flew. Both airlines have different A/C types except for the 757s.
NW has some DC9s that are going out of business so those pilots are going to get screwed. No one knows how the pilots will react to this. EVen though they have an agreement things most likely won't go smoothly.
It will be interesting to seeif they do have a union at DL/NW. The workers will need it since DL contracts out more of their ramp stations than any other airline out there.
The NW/DL merger might happen quicker than the US/HP merger, but the NW/DL merger will still have a lot of problems. And if they go union then it will take a long time to get a contract worked out for workers at both airlines.

I believe that in an airline merger, if one airline has a labor group that is unionized, and the other is not, then the union in place at the one carrier becomes the bargaining agent for the entire group once it is determined that they have single-carrier status.

The existing CBA for one group can be "appointed" CBA for the combined group but it depends on the numbers - if the existing CBA already represents a majority of the combined group it's more likely to happen.

The AMFA represented NW mechanics, but withdrew it's application for CBA status for the combined mechanic group after not being able to get enough authorization cards. The NW mechanics were outnumbered 5 to 1 by the DL mechanics.

The same is true for FA's, CSA's, etc - the non-union DL group outnumbers the unionized NW group so there'll be an election to determine if the combined groups will be represented by the union that represents the NW part of the group.
