So now that US has the absolutely worst product on the market, they decide to charge what few frequent fliers they have left MORE for their alleged upgrades...

On October 3, domestic goes to 15000 miles one way, semi international goes to 17,500, and international goes to 30,000 one way. In addition, your fare must be over $1200 to get the upgrade at all! This just stinks....it reminds me of a joke..two old ladies in the food line at the senior center-one says to the other "the food here really stinks". The other says, "Yes, and such small portions...."

It appears that since they haven't done enough to alienate us, they are trying HARDER. Folks over on FT who had stayed are NOW saying this is it....

If it weren't for BAD decisions, there would be no decisions at all out of this group...

On another note, however, it is interesting to note that the mileage redemption levels are now more or less in line with United......conspiracy supporters go to it.......

Oh and a final note----when did they plan on TELLING us about this????????????? I bet they weren't. Sneaky AND deceptive.......

the only good thing about this is that ma and pa kettle won't be able to take up seats in FC using a mileage upgrades.I am planning a biz trip to LAS and some other cities 3 to 4 weeks from now and FC is nearly sold out on every flight...I doubt biz customers are paying for fc that far in advance. when I saw I could easily do the trip on AA I figured, I've been using FL, DL, and UA... why not try AA bc from what I hear, AA's product is lightyears ahead of US for the SAME price.

great news more seats to sell...

I doubt biz customers are actually paying for first class at all. Bravo if FC is actually sold out in advance.

Still an apples to oranges comparison when you consider that UA's service might actually be WORTH the value of the points spent to upgrade...

Yes apples to oranges, but it still feeds the merger conspiracy theories......

And no one in their right mind pays for F on US any more--it's really just coach plus, no matter how you look at it.

They are SO out of touch with their customers, it's almost like they WANT the FF's to leave.

Art...breaking news....FLY SOMEONE ELSE. Yes, you might have to wait a while to become elite enough to upgrade every trip and get served on fine China. But there is a solution. Fly United. Fly American. Fly Delta. Fly Continental. Fly Northwest. Of the times you've flown F class on US...how many times did you pay for it? My dad used to buy a car every year when he was in sales. But the car dealership never gave him a new car every 5 years for being a good customer. Hell, they even charged him for oil changes. What is it about airlines that makes a FF program an entitlement?

Uh he does. And, I've paid for F lots and lots and lots of times. No more though--it is not worth it. And you and your dad must go to a crappy dealership--the places that I purchase my cars give me LOTS of perks for being a loyal customer. hell, they've even given me free oil changes. And you are so out of touch, you don't even realize that other airlines are enticing FF's from US with elite status.

Actually, if you've been reading some of Art's other posts, he has been PAYING for F.....on CO and AA! Because they have a product worth paying for.

Hey, Doug, are closets, overhead space and 38" of pitch included in the 15K one-way mileage upgrade? Didn't think so!

I am not going to feed the troll, but I will say that I do fly paid F on CO and AA because they are WORTH it and priced competitively. What US offers as F regardless of paid or upgrade is an embarrassment. So they charge MORE for LESS. PLUS, you fail to realize that upgrades have been earned by flying continuously.

So.. US charges MORE for F than most others--in fact AA in F has been cheaper than US in COACH! AND both AA and CO have competitive F products. Now they are raising the bar on miles--take more miles, offer less service. So AA and CO bring VALUE to the proposition....

But let's go a step further. All this was to be expected, since it is apparent that the customer is still the enemy at US. The straw that broke the camel's back is when US could not offer RELIABLE transportation--and I would have to fly with the expectation that I may not arrive at my destination within 12 hours of original plan......and if/when something went wrong there was no assurance of adequate customer service to reaccomodate me. THAT is what sets US apart...a total breakdown of customer service, and through no fault of the employees themselves...in most cases.

You are now free to crawl back into your cave.......

I agree PB. Being in PHL makes it tough. I have now tried DL, FL, UA, and now AA. I will be lucky to be gold on US next year. This is coming from someone who has bee flying US since the early 80's and I've been CP for 5 years with many of those years being well in excess of 100,000 miles...lots of them being Y, B, A, F, and J fares. Based on art's feedback and what I've read about AA's service levels, I plan to do an AA challenge to get Plat status. I'll have one preferred carrier and then US will be for when I have no choice.

Oh and now that AA admits Amex Plat members to admirals clubs for no charge when flying AA it makes it easier. The others are enhancing while US continues to devalue. When will they learn that throwing thousands of dollars of vouchers and their best customers is not enough.

Okay....as a FF with US, how many did he pay for on US????

Well, considering my dad's been dead for 4 years, if there are problems with the dealership where he's at now, then maybe paradise doesn't include free oil changes. My point is that my dad bought a new car every year because he'd put 75,000 miles on one in a years time. He was a 'frequent buyer'...they didn't upgrade him from a Plymouth to a Chrysler at no charge...which is pretty much what your FF program upgrades to first class are. It's good that Art and others are actually buying first class tickets on the competition. It helps them make a profit. But when he gains that status...will it be coach prices and upgrades?
