What's new

Never Too Late

I stand corrected regarding past heavy maintenance...it has been with TIMCO. Excuse my error.

But also found the following article regarding some maintenance (trialed in 2004, maybe a contract? in 2005 for a company in El Salvador....) Don't know if it will really transpired, post-merger, considering ACEs apparent involvement.

Just food for thought.

You are incorrect about AmericaWest outsourcing outside of the US.. They do send some of their Airbus Checks to El Salvadore just like JetBlue.

As for the 1113 filing, I agree.. Negotiations would have to take place.. However there is no guarantee that the IAM CBA will be the surviving document. They might be the surviving union but not the CBA.. Similar to the UAL deal when AMFA took over.. They had to accept the IAM negotiated contract however they were not the bargaining unit. They simply crossed out IAM in all the contracts.. Southwest did the same thing when they switched from IBT to AMFA..

So the IAM contract that US Airways has may not survive the merger.. Remember AmericaWest is the buyer not the other way around.

HP's heavy mtc is outsourced to TIMCO in Lake City, FL, they do not outsource to foriegn repair stations.

And if US tries another 1113 filing, negotiations have to take place all over again and a hearing, it just does not file a motion and put in place whatever they want.

America West Selects Brice Seating

Precedes Renewal of TIMCO Heavy Maintenance Contract

GREENSBORO, N.C., July 30, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TIMCO Aviation Services, Inc.

(BULLETIN BOARD: TMAS) announced that America West selected the company's subsidiary, Brice Manufacturing Company, for its fleet renewal program. The work scope includes seating for America West's 22 new Airbus A320/A319 aircraft and the possibility of follow-up work to retrofit a number of aircraft in its current fleet.

TIMCO also has announced the renewal of its multiple-year contract with America West for the supply of heavy maintenance services for the carrier's Boeing 737, Boeing 757 and Airbus A319/320 fleets at TIMCO's Macon, Ga. (TIMCO-MCN), and Lake City, Fla. (TIMCO-LCQ), facilities.

Gil West, president and COO of TIMCO, said, "The America West program is significant because it marks the first time a major U.S. carrier has adopted Brice seating products. Coupled with our existing heavy maintenance contract with America West, this award reflects TIMCO's strategy to become a one-stop- shop provider of high-quality support services for the aviation industry."

America West Airlines is a major U.S. carrier based in Phoenix, from which it serves more non-stop destinations with greater frequency than any other carrier. America West has hubs at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The airline's modern, fuel-efficient fleet consists of Airbus A320s, Airbus A319s, Boeing 757s and Boeing 737s. The average age of the America West fleet is approximately 9 years.

This Wednesday September 8th the America West A-320 N625AW aircraft arrived at AEROMAN facilities, TACA Airlines' maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center, at the El Salvador´s International Airport in Comalapa. This marks the beginning of a closer working relationship between these two companies, due to the fact that 35 to 40 more A-320s of America West's fleet will undergo heavy maintenance from September 2004 through December 2005 at AEROMAN.

America West is the second largest, low-fare carrier and the eighth largest operation in the United States. It serves 96 destinations and has an average of 878 system-wide daily departures. This airline chose AEROMAN´s services as one of its heavy-maintenance outsourcing vendor.

The aircrafts, mainly Airbus A-320, will be undergoing "C" Checks, which is the most thorough type of maintenance work. At these, the entire aircraft goes through an exhaustive series of structural and electronics systems checks, inspections and overhaul work. "C" Checks are performed every 15 months on America West's fleet.

"We have a further challenge and a great commitment to our clients, to continue providing total customer satisfaction. We have been working together towards excellence combining six key components, quality, on time delivery, cost efficiency, customer service, security and safety, and values," said Ernesto Ruiz, General Manager at AEROMAN.

So your point is what?

You made the comment that they do not outsource out of the US.. We said they do. Now you post an item saying not only does AmericaWest oursource to TIMCO but they outsource to Aeroman in El Salvadore!!!

So your point is what?

Yes Aeroman is their overflow.. They still outsource outside of the US.

What am I missing or are you admitting you made an error?

And exactly what do you make of AWA renewing their contract with TIMCO for Airbus Services? That does not sound like the same Noise Frank is making in PIT!! It sounds like they plan on sending their work to a vendor..

It was Elizabeth Dole the wife of Bob Dole that spearheaded all of this off shore outsourcing for maintenance when she was in charge of the Transportation department or FAA (?). (I laugh when I see A & P mechanics voting for republicans.)

You leveled the charge, provide something for all to see.........BTW, E Dole was in Transportation Dept., not FAA.

That is why I wrote Transportation Department or FAA (?) as I was unsure which one.

When she was in charge of the Transportation Department she changed the restrictions to allow offshore (foreign countries) third party maintenance outfits to work on aircraft of US registered carriers. These companies were not and currently are not subject to the same laws and rules governing US based maintenance providers.
