US Airways Opens the South Pacific to Customers Through New Air New Zealand Codeshare Agreement
Tuesday August 14, 4:27 pm ET

TEMPE, Ariz., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Beginning this October, US Airways (NYSE: LCC - News) customers will be able to enjoy seamless travel between the United States, New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands, thanks to a codeshare cooperation between Air New Zealand and US Airways subject to both United States and foreign government approval. Codeshare flights will be available for purchase in September.

With this new agreement, US Airways customers traveling to New Zealand and Pacific Islands will be able to connect on Air New Zealand nonstop service from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

From the Auckland, New Zealand hub, US Airways' customers can seamlessly connect on Air New Zealand to popular destinations in New Zealand and Australia.

Conversely, Air New Zealand customers traveling to Phoenix, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh can do so conveniently, via US Airways flights departing Los Angeles or San Francisco

"We're delighted to offer Air New Zealand's customers access to our hub cities of Las Vegas and Phoenix, with easy connections to 97 destinations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico through US Airways' extensive route network," said Andrew Nocella, US Airways' senior vice president, schedule, planning and alliances.

Roger Poulton, Air New Zealand Vice President - The Americas, said, "Air New Zealand is pleased our customers will enjoy the extra convenience that will result from this partnership with US Airways."

AZ is a good carrier. And THEY serve the Land of Chairman Mao. I knew those fortune cookies would Make Dougie's Dream Come True :lol:

AZ=Alitalia
NZ=Air New Zealand
Thanks for the correction. Confusing the fine folks at airNewZealand with the surly, arrogant, pompous Armani clad Alitalia is a BIGGIE. If you want to see DREADFUL........Fly Alitalia. Probably why no other carrier will touch the beleagured airline and why even their own government is tempted to finally pull the plug and SHUT IT DOWN.

NZ is a great airline. Don't know if they are tilll flying the '10's, but when I would fly them, many times, couldn't ask for better. And the C/O would get on the PA and explain about punching throught the ITZ. C/O's with other airlines, for what ever reason didn't.

That’s great news only if US had a reservation system that could support an international code share

I have a meeting with Parker and Kirby in the morning to discuss a res system called system one! Does anyone remember that system and where it came from???

Certainly not bad news, but it's hard to get too excited about it since NZ doesn't fly into any US hub cities. For US pax to take advantage of this they need to originate in a city that NZ serves for a non-stop or a US hub city for a one-stop. For any other pax, this is a double-connect and, therefore, not terribly attractive.

It was originated by Eastern Air Lines and "acquired" by a Mr. Lorenzo. It's now owned by EDS and called......SHARES!

How did score a meeting with those two?

Can you ask them to puh-lease let the frontline have access to native SHARES!!!!!

System One (the travel agency side) was purchased by Amadeus in 1995.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1995--

o AMADEUS Global Travel Distribution SA, the computer reservation system (CRS) holding more than 50 percent of the travel agency marketshare in Europe and South America, has acquired from Continental Airlines CRS assets of its System One Information Management subsidiary.

NZ is a wonderful airline. I have to wonder, though. If half of what you guys are saying about your own airline is true, why would NZ want to get involved?

Particularly with the current res system...Can you imagine passengers arriving at LAX, changing terminals (a pain in itself), then getting to NZ's check-in to find out that NZ has no record of them? But, their luggage goes seamlessly via interline connection to SYD? :shock:
