What's new

New OCC/SOC where will it be?

Word in PIT is it is staying in the soon-to-be isolated town of Pittsburgh. It will take eight hours to get management here if there is a major problem...LOL. Does the FAA have any problem with distance from headquarters?

The FAA only cares whether or not it is close to them.

I don't think it matters, as long as executives in charge of operations (people like David Seymour, etc) are close by. When there's a crappy operational day, it's better to NOT have so many management types wandering around and interfering.

I dont' think the FAA cares about that either..or at least can't dictate that. If that were the case, PIT would have been chosen a long time ago. The FAA announced a while back that the LCC certificate office will be in PIT.

Well can agree it is nice not having management around all the time but will still be shocked if they leave us 1800 miles away. The certificate I believe is only located here until the single one is issued later this year and it can be at either.

No, a while back it was announced that once we go to a combined certificate, the FAA certificate office will stay in PIT. When Spirit moved from DTW to FLL, the FAA office stayed in DTW.

US Airways FAA is in Pittsburgh. So, I am sure that is not a problem for them

Hey it usually takes 8 hours for our customers to make connections through PHL but that hasn't stopped them from severely overloading the airport with flights now has it.........

PIT does have direct service to PHX and it only takes about 3 1/2 hours.

East Inflight goes back and forth daily.

I think the writing was on the wall when PHX was asked to resubmit their bid....I firmly believe that CLT came in with a fantastic offer(NC state law does not require all bid info to be published)that trumped PHX. Well why not get PHX to up their offer to make sure all the jobs go there...

I think CLT has been the front-runner all the time. Since that would require moving 2 facilities instead of just one, I believe the only reason the company considered CLT was that they submitted a fantastic offer before offers were being solicited. The company just opened up bidding to see if PHX or PIT could beat that offer.

Read the post on JetBlue forum that talks about STILL having flight cancellations!!!

Why you ask?

Pittsburgh has a staff at OCC that is VERY EXPERIENCED in the mayham that comes to the Northeastern United States almost every winter. It only took US a day or two to get out of the mess. If US would decide to take OCC out of PIT, many of those folks WILL NOT relocate. Having to hire "newbies" to fill those positions will result in a mess like JB is STILL having. There is alot to say about experience.

At this point, I am sure that is playing on the decision making. Parker said along the line that it is NOT all a money factor.

I think PIT is still a major player.

US Airways had some VERY EXPERIENCED reservation agents in Pittsburgh only to close the call center and LCC has been paying the price ever since. Hopefully they learn their lesson

Why not PHL! This way they can just "Walk" and see the mess.

Edited: Not in PHL City Limits, Southeastern PA.
